Anyone else need a helmet for racing this year?

The only place I can come up with is Bob's cycle ranch in little canada, are there any other good spots to buy/try helmets?

I'm thinking that I'm going to get an open face this year because I have to wear glasses for the rest of my life, has anyone used an open face with a tinted shield?

Thanks
Aaron

Re: Anyone else need a helmet for racing this year?

I used a closed face the past two years with glasses with no problem. I don't use a tinted shield, but did rock shades as needed. Bob's is a great place to go and actually try them on to make sure the fit is where you need it to be. If you plan on any other racing you may want to consider which helmet you really should get. The requirements are different and it would suck to need to buy another helmet down the road.

Thanks, I'll need it for Drag, auto-x and hopefully some HPDE's.

If you're buying locally bob's is probably going to be your best bet. They usually have the largest selection to choose from. You can always find one you like at bob's and try and find a better deal online.

If you want to do HPDE I would get one rated SA2010, it will last you the next 7 years. I really like my HJC AR10 II, but that is full face.

Edit: I bought mine from Todd @ track time motorsports, he gives you a $50 discount for one of his HPDE events at BIR if you buy the helmet from him. Or at least he used to.

+1 on the SA2010 helmet.

Try the following site: http://www.soloracer.com/. The HJC SA helmets fit very similar to the Motorcycle equivalents for sizing, Also get a full face, they are nice in that you can wear glasses and have a tinted shield for the road glare.

1) Did you see my latest email?

2) Are open face helmet's easier to get on glasses? I hate my helmet now for putting on glasses.

I'd probably get this: http://www.soloracer.com/pyrotectproair.html

1. Yep.. just responded

2. You need to remove glasses to put on a open face as well. I have the same problem, I like my full face more because I don't get road glare with the tinted shield.

Re: Anyone else need a helmet for racing this year?

Denis Kirk always has helmets on clearance. I would try some on locally then order one from them . The only thing I dont like about Denis Kirk is there website only says snell rated and doesnt specify 2005 or 10

Go hit up Jeff (twinkie) at Simply. I bet he can get you a deal on some stuff, they might not have as much to try on as bobs but might be able to get you a better deal. He hooked me up on a jacket last weekend

Re: Anyone else need a helmet for racing this year?

Are people looking for motorcycle or auto helmets? For auto's try here: http://www.soloracer.com/helmets.html

All the places listed above will not have SA2010 helmets.

The one I have is this one:

HJC AR-10 II Full Face SA2010 Rated Helmet

The new Snell SA2010 rated AR-10 II helmet from HJC meets or exceeds the new Snell Foundation's SA2010 specifications. It is a lightweight and high quality auto racing helmet with the features of helmets costing twice as much. What more can you expect from the world's #1 helmet company?

Standard Features Include:
Lightweight fiberglass composite weave shell
Plush, removable & washable Nomex Interior Liner
Advanced ACS ventilation system
Forehead AND chin bar ventilation (new)
Double D-ring retention system
Pre-drilled for a HANS device
Meets or exceeds SNELL SA2010
FREE helmet bag
