Re: beaterX project thread
I'm talking not so much about the track, but more-so about being stuck in 10mph traffic on 35W on a 95* day with the A/C on.
That is where my DSM struggled when it had a 3.5" Garrett core mounted in front of my A/C condenser and Mishimoto radiator. So just curious if that's ever an issue for any of the X's. I'm sure your aluminum block is a little better at dissipating heat than the old 6-bolt iron 4g63.

No close-ups but its a standard garrett core--very dense. The difference between dsms and evos is awesome on this point--Evos have a FMIC from the factory. As such, there are huge extra channels for air to flow to the radiator despite having a huge fmic core. Also the fmic is offset lower than the radiator, I think this helps a bit.

Bryan@GST rags on DW and in the last day a guy is trying to blame a blown motor on a pre-release set of the 1500s. My personal experience has been good, both with that set you've got and the 1000s. Those IDs didn't tune for shit.

No radiator upgrade needed at this point. Maybe if I tracked the thing but for now, meh. Saw the guy on the DW1500's, what a dick. Guys like that need to be thrown off the internet.

Exactly. Same conditions on an evo are never a problem.

Re: beaterX project thread
I'm kinda with B-man on this, and the same reason I'd pay the dough for a ETS core.
I've also heard nothing bad about DW and glad to hear about your good experiences with them, I'm kinda sad I missed their opening day when I was down in OK.
So when is the reassembly happening?
I got treed.

Re: beaterX project thread
Wooooot baby it's fukn black Friday for scheides!!
Picked up the head from DB Performance and it looks HOT, big valves, nice basic port job, the dings are all fixed and the dual valvespring setup looks pimp. Shane helped me check the clearance on the tappets and half of them were perfect! We went to roll the intake cam over and it would not budge. Seems like the cam was improperly machined from Kelford.
so, option one is to put *everything* back together with the stock cams and try fire it up this weekend, or wait on the cams and wait further on tappets (I suppose I should check clearances on these either way). Either way Shane is being awesome and has been an insane resourse through this process.
After that I made my way to MAP to pick up the shortblock and gaskets. All I can say is that I am seriously impressed. The everything was actually ready to go at 10:30am today but I wasn't able to make it there until after 5. Engine looks freaking hot, wait till you see the rods. This is a 'stage 1.5' shorty, stock sleeves with their big bad stage2 rods.
I have a *pile* of other parts but I just pulled the car into the garage and immediately bailed--night out with the wife to make up for the massive checks I had to write today. If anyone wants to help tomorrow, give me a call or just show up, I will be getting started around 10am (?) and working all day/night untill it's done or I give up. Beer and food provided to those who draw their own blood, bust a knuckle, or get oil in your hair

Re: beaterX project thread
I'll get oil in your hair if you know what I MEAN. Looks good d0g, I'm still at work was pissed about that until I read you aren't working on it right now. I'll come over tomorrow morning fo sho, not sure how long I can stay but I'll stay for a few hours.
Also I think you should wait on the cams, how long are they out again? That way you're not too rushed this weekend to put it together and you can quadruple check everything, but that's just me Knowing everything is bolted to spec and beautiful down the road I think will pay off more than having the car this weekend.

Re: beaterX project thread
Wow, this thing is really moving!! I vote put stock cams back in, gte your money back for them and get this sucker back on the road for now. Like Shawn said, that will give you plenty o' time to triple check everything.

Bah, you can put the short block and tranny into the car without the head. This is the stupid weekend at work or I'd be there to clean tools or something.

Re: beaterX project thread
I'd wait for the big cams, and why don't you tighten each cap a tiny bit so they are on, but the cam turns. Then tighten one cap at a time to see which one binds, then get a dial indicator on that journal and see what the dilly yo is. If it's the cam journal out of round, you should just take it to a machine shop and tell them to make it round, then add "bitch" so they hurry up.

Re: beaterX project thread
I know exactly which one is causing the problem. I'll bolt a stock cam in there to make sure everything is still happy but yea, head-on-block and in she goes. Plenty of other people do the rest of the job withthe motor onthe car, I'll just do the same.
