Just got my A/C converted to freeze 12 today. Blowing colder then ever! cost me 90 bux for the complete service and parts for the conversion. The cost of just the regular R-12 freon was nutz, so I got the conversion done. Figured I do it while I was still here because they do it cheap on base, and might as well do it here where its cheap instead of having to do it somewhere else later where its more spendy. Anyway I'm just bored and thought I'd share my highlight of the day

r12 is the old style freon that came in cars that were built befor like 93 or sumthin, i dunno the exact date. But it's supposed to be not that great for the environment, so they are trying to get it out of circulation. And they are doing that by charging a lot for it. So people would convert to the newer r134, but now they have an even newer freon called freeze 12. I don't know exact prices but its like instead of paying 70 bux per can for r12, ill be able to use freeze 12 which is more like 7 bux a can. And to convert it you need new little fittings on your ac lines. i can take a couple pics just cuz im bored outta my mind. But I figured I might as well get it converted on base here for 90 bux which includes all labor and parts and freon. Cuz I don't know of anywhere in MN that would do it that cheap.

new fittings

Im going to do the R134 coversion sometime soon... My AC has been dead for a while just need to get the conversion kit and find all the fittings to drain and fill. Of course Im going to have a profesional drain it to protect the environment I just need to find the compressor oil fittings.

i havent seen r-12 in a while. the reason that stuff was bad in general is when it was burned it produced a phosgene gas.

Never heard of this "new" conversion.. Plus they sel the r134 kit at local auto stores for like 30 bucks. Comes with all the oil for the compressor and the r134.

30 bux? deng not bad. Does that conversion need different fittings too like what my conversion needed? Freeze 12 is newer then r134 i believe, I really don't know the pros/cons. I just know I wasn't paying 70 bux/can for that r-12 crap.

Peter, my car was converted and I no longer have ac in it. If I can find the lines, you can have a free conversion kit. All you would have to do is swap the lines.

Hmm I dont think I will need new lines if I go withthe coversion kit at checker. But when I get the kit containing the AC fluids and such I will see how it goes and If ill need different lines but I dont think you do with the r134 type. You might only with the new freeze 12 but Im not sure.

John- Ill check on it but thanks.
