The first sign of winter came today...
On my drive home from work I watched as the First sign of a Minnesota winter came. I wish i could have gotten this on video. As we all know, we got snow today. But that is not the first sign of winter.
Im driving on 494 nearing where 494 and 94 merge together in Maple Grove. I look towards 94 just in time to see a Black sedan sliding on 94 and then dumping down into the ditch between the interchange, Sliding, spinning and snow flying.... I took a deep breath, smiled, and said "Ahhhh... winter is finally here."
Moral of the story: Get your winter tires, and drive slower, its slippery out there.

Noooo!! Dont drive slower! Just learn how to drive on the snow and be more aware of whats happening around you. I cant stand the slow drivers in the winter.

Currently in the back of a 3/4 ton suburban doing a little drifting. It's all about technique.

Learning to control your car is huge. Don't overdrive the conditions and you'll be just fine. But also, don't be a dipshit and go 20 mph when there's barely an inch of snow on the ground, that's how accidents are caused.

So you don't think my summer tires will handle the snow very good?

Re: The first sign of winter came today...
Im saying, Dont be a dip shit and drive 80 in conditions that are not right for it. If you drive 80 and go in the ditch, expect me driving 60 past you laughing and taking pictures.

Re: The first sign of winter came today...
I consistently drove 60 in the left lane of 35W south (to Iowa, while snowing) while everyone else drove 30 in the plowed lane. AWD + awesome winter tires is the best. Didn't ever feel unsafe except occasionally worried someone would pull out in front of me like they do in the carpool lanes during traffic.
On the walk home from work through the skyway I had a grin on my face looking at all the snowy streets downtown. I was planning my drift route through downtown later in the Cadillac when the streets are dead.

Re: The first sign of winter came today...
I have all seasons on my audi and I still found myself speading on the way home from work tonight. AWD with LSD and a heavy ass car (audi a4) is AMAZING in the snow. I'm trying to find reasons to leave the house so I can go have more fun!

I went out to buy dog food and get a new coffee machine (other one broke) and had some fun in parking lots and streets of MG. Jessica was scared.

had fun on the way home from work. work is only a 5 minute drive for me but it was fun. oddly enough, my car makes a whining "wooo" noise when i do small drifts...

Re: The first sign of winter came today...
My first sign of winter:
I was never told this and haven't seen signs up, but apparently it's a snow route and I have to have this moved by 9pm until 8am. It must be new this year because it's never been enforced in past years. Going to suck with the summer tires still on
Now I really need to get rid of one of the cars, I'll be gone for 2 weeks soon and won't have a way to move my car.

Re: The first sign of winter came today...
Is that a 1 hour parking sign there? Seems like you were there for more then that.

Re: The first sign of winter came today...
I probably should look into storage since I can't sell it.
It also says "except by permit", and I have a street permit so I can park there 24/7 all year round.

Re: The first sign of winter came today...
I'll check today with my landlord, he's got a pole barn with enough room for one more car. it's 75 a month. I kept my car there for a year, plus he was cool with letting me work on it.

Re: The first sign of winter came today...
Took me 45 minutes to dig the bish out. I don't have a shovel (condo, everything plowed for me, etc) so I was digging with my hands and kicking the icy/packed stuff loose for about 30 minutes, and a really nice guy with 2 shovels in his truck stops for me. After 10 more minutes of digging and then 5 minutes of rocking we got it out.
Then I got home after bowling and found out I couldn't park ANYWHERE downtown, so I had to find a ramp for overnight. I now hate snow.
