Motors By Gosh?

I'm looking at getting a 6 bolt freshened up. I'd like to reuse the rotating assembly and just get rings and bearings thrown in, as well as have the head freshened up.

I had my former crew chief give me a quote, as he has his own machine shop. If I drop off the motor and pick it up ready to drop in, he wants $1950 all said and done. This surprised me, as I can pick up a short block with a new rotating assembly from MAP for 2000.

Any one know what I could expect for a ballpark estimate from Gosh for a rebuild?

Thanks and I appreciate any comments.

Gosh does their motors, why not cut to the chase and cut out a middle man?

Gosh does the machine work and that is it. Map actually assembles the engine.

He did my head, I wasn't happy with it after I had another machinist look at it after my valve stem seals failed.

building an engine is pretty easy.....but if you have money in place of ambition, bring it to modern

For that price, you might as well buy my built motor...

I highly recommend John Gosh. He machined my head and installed new springs at the same time for a great price and quick turnaround. Good guy.

Re: Motors By Gosh?

I had gosh do my motor, all the machine work and the assembly. For the shortblock with grinding the crank down 10 under and recoating it, assembly, and all the other machine work I walked out spending around $1000

We have a few select local machinists that we have determined meet our quality guidelines, but they only handle the machine work aspect of it not the assembly. In regards to Motors by Gosh being able to assemble the short block for you, I wouldn't doubt it for a second. However, I'm confident that there are more than a few tips and tricks that we have picked up along the way that are specific to the 4g63/64 platform that give us an edge in regards to engine building capabilities, please see my signature for one very fast example

Blageo: I could have got you out the door for around that same price with an un-cut crankshaft Maybe next time!

Yes, mine did, I over revved it, and the machine work was done by crankshaft supply and built by someone else before I started building engines myself....

I've had great luck with crankshaft supply as far as machining cranks, so has almost every machine shop in the twin cities.

Re: Motors By Gosh?

We have a stock pile of good standard cranks for the simple reason of avoiding any possibility of an issue in this aspect. I don't think we have ever used a cut crank in any motor build, mild or all out...
