That is interesting. Probably due to having such little room to work with bolts. A vband would be nice right there.

They are so tiny.

Re: BMW 335s use mitsu turbos

Those BMW guys are idiots. The "new" guys who "came over from evo's and honda's" as one guy said apparently have no idea how to tune cars and all of their suggestions or questions are stupid. That's according to the "old" bmw owners who have never turned a wrench in their life, assuming that BMW's are perfect from the factory.

They are alot like people on starquestclub.com - they can't fathom the idea of doing something different, like actually put a big turbo on their car to replace the mitsu ones.

I got pretty annoyed at most of the comments there.

Re: BMW 335s use mitsu turbos

I had found a forum at one time were there were a number of turbo M3 owners. A few of them seemed to know their shit, but those guys also had experince with older stuff like GN's.

Ever seen a TD025? I saw one a on a big Toro mower. THOSE make the BMW's turbos look big.

And I'm not saying all bmw owners are like that, or all forum people for that matter, but I just saw a whole lot of similarity to starquest guys who are well known for shutting out new ideas because they are "different"!!!

I would have guessed they were for a bike or similar if I just saw a pic of one by itself.

Yeah, thats actually how the new GT-R is setup as well. One piece manifold/turbo setup. So, if you want to replace the turbo or manifold, you get to replace both pieces. I guess not a big deal if you can afford a new BMW or GT-R anyway....

At least they use a V-band outlet on the compressor

SRT-4's use the turbo/manifold in one design as well do they not?

Yes (and they are made by Mitsu too) they are cast ni-resist and have the manifold, turbine housing, and internal wastegate flapper as one unit.

Ford did extensive research into what was best for turbo performance about a decade ago (I think) and they tested log style, tube style, and cast 'turbofolds' to see what yielded the best results. Ultimately there wasn't a whole lot of difference between the log and tubular versions, but the turbofold actually performed better for some reason.

Personally I like the small package they bring, but hate the limitations they have when it comes to upgrades....

I think we would need to rig up a clutch/chain drive system, but that would totally kick ass!
