So what are the best ways people launch there awd dsm off the line? Best way without ruining things. Just wanting to here what you guys and gals have to say, Thanks ~jeremiah~

...just letting you know..launching is the worst thing that kills dsm trannie's and their drivelines. BUT, it's just too fun.. I hear people holding it at about 5500 rpm, and letting the cluthc out JUST enough to start grabbing..when the light turns green, less reaction getting off the clutch, and stomp on the gas..not fully though..ya gotta slip it just a bit so you don't bog the launch, or spin too much (yes, street tires awd spins). it's a feel kinda thing..go out n try a few times in a safe area..

+1 on the getting the clutch to the dragging point before taking off, it keeps everything from slamming together and takes some of the stress out of the launch, it is still hard on everything tho

my proceedure is: put car in gear, bring car to desired RPM, let clutch slowly out to friction point(where it just tries to move), then when you are ready to go quickly release pedal but not too fast or you will spin/bog too much.

Before I use to hold it at 4500 and let the clutch pretty quickly while flooring it. Recently I've been playing around with stutterbox and a 6000rpm launch is pretty fun... So is broken driveline lol.

I used to pre-load the cluth slightly and bounce the rev's between 5000 to 5500. When I finally launch I try and slip the clutch as the revs are coming up (kind of hard to explain it). I found without a stutterbox if you bounce the rev's with your accellerator pedal and launch as the rev's are coming up it builds boost better than if you hold it at a set RPM and slip it. That's how I got my pretty much stock Talon to run it's 12.99.

Then again it all could just be in my head

Is a stutter box were the rpms just go up and go to a certain point and stays there? (sorry hard to explain)

yea, a stutterbox is like a rev limiter that turns off with the clutch pedal. i love mine it takes one more thing off your mind you need to concentrate on when launching, you can just hold it floored and have any rpm you want without trying

You could always just hold the throttle at around 2k and just floor it when you are supposed to go, slipping it when it is at the desired launch rpm. It wouldn't be to consistent, but would help you get off the line quick if you were new to it. Everyone has their own method. That way seemed to work pretty well for me before I had a studderbox. I just did that and launched between 4500 and 5000 rpm.

It is a terrible idea to just rev it up to 6K and DUMP the clutch. But it makes for a fun launch.

i did that for 3 years and my clutch finally started to slip this past winter. But what is odd, the clutch doesn't slip anymore and hasn't since I got it out of storage.

I 100% disagree. I did that probably 40+ times over a couples months time (15+ in one afternoon) on my old 95 GSX with a ACT 2600 and I never had a problem. This was on the T25 pulling low 1.7 60' foots running 13.4 - 13.6. The car hit VERY hard out of the hole each time, to little to late by 1/8 mile with the T25

I've always launched around 4.5k-5k rpm. Slip it just enough to catch and then floor it almost at the same time and let the clutch fully grab. It worked for me on my ACT 2100, but not so well on my ACT 2600. Maybe I'll try dumping at 6k once and see how that goes. I bogged when I tried dumping at 5.5k though

. My car must just be too weak, eh?

a stutterbox makes the process ALOT easier.

I've had success anywhere from 5,000 to 6,500 rpms. I tend to like 5,500 rpms the best because then it seems to be the perfect launch for my set up, it doesn't squeel the tires, and it doesn't bog at all. She just gits up and go and the rpms just climb from 5,500 and never go down after releasing the clutch.

Basically what I do is rev her to 5,000 and when I know the lights about to go, I let the clutch out just enough for the car to start to roll a little, then i give it more gas so that she revs to 5,500 and starts building boost, then the light turns and I let the clutch out slow enough without burning it and punch the gas and next thing I know I'm going 30 mph shifting into 2nd.

Ok this is kinda Noob, but the DSMLink has a built in studderbox right? I have my launching rpms set at 3200

Stutter Box launch is 7Krpms at about 12-15psi of boost at launch. And I just dump the clutch. at least 50+ passes run that way with out tranny problems. Wasn't until I lowered my launch rpms to the point where my tires grabbed and then wheel hopped like crazy. That's when I broke my tranny.

Basically IMO it's better to either launch gently (ie: roll into it) or launch hard (ie: make damn sure your tires break loose and are spinning) Both ways should yeild you less tranny breakage.

...and, if you launch hard, have a clutch that will take it..honestly, twin discs are the best, and they are not THAT unstreetable..

I just recently tried brake boosting (w/ a 5spd) and let me tell you it makes a major difference!

I have my stutter box set to 6500rpms, while at the lines staging, press the brake with the left side of your right foot and press the gas with the right side of the same foot. Then slip the clutch until you feel it start to grab and bring it up to the stutter box. It helps a lot bringing up boost on larger turbos like mine.

I've also heard of people doing the same thing and also grinding the first 4-5 teeth (notches) on the e-brake handle and pull that when they are staging. Then all they have to do is let go of it and it drops on its own allowing the e-brake to release. I'm going to be trying this very shortly!

Febo and i went through a clutch in a month doing 4k launches. I think he slipped it out way to slow though, cause you'd always smell burnt clutch for about 10 minutes after a launch.
