Re: Snowmobiling

I just thought I'd share my snowmobiling situation:
My grandpa worked for Polaris for many years... won best sales rep in MN 8 years. They have a timeshare off Gull Lake that we go to every February. This year, he's getting a hold of seven 05 Polaris sleds for the whole family to enjoy. Let's hope it's cold and snowy this year... the last two years have been pretty crummy.

Re: Snowmobiling

Speaking of sleds... I ran across this on ebay this morning! Sick Sick Sick! Imagine trying to keep the front end down. If I was to buy a sled, I would definately get that one! Would match my Aquatrax nicely.

Re: Snowmobiling

Yea that is awesome. They have been known to make over 300hp on the RX1 with a turbo kit. Absolutly nuts.

I can't imagine that much power in a sled. I mean come on, 128hp is enough to make you sweat on a 0 degree day just trying to hang on.

Re: Snowmobiling

Went to the Yammi and Actic cat dealership today for some parts. Those new 4 stroke Yamahas look damn nice. I kinda like the new Crossfires too. Oh well, someday I will be able to afford something nice.

Re: Snowmobiling

Yeah, it sounds like Cat is going to the Crossfire chassis next year. That will just be interim until they have a new one out. It still won't be up to par with the Rev, but should get them closer.

Re: Snowmobiling

Those new Yammys are awesome.

Last year was pretty decent for riding. There were good trails every weekend from January 1st to March 19th from Cross Lake (Breezy Point) to Hill City. I don't know how much people expect to ride in Minnesota but I feel you can only really hope for 3 months worth of riding each year. If you want to ride in early December you almost have to plan a trip to the UP to find good snow.

Re: Snowmobiling

Went riding up north (Duluth) this weekend. Thursday started at the Martin Rd in Duluth. To make a long story short we rode to Lusten Moutains and back.

The ride was pretty good on Thursday, the trails had good snow on them. Only the corners were a little icy so you had to be careful. When I heard of how much snow Duluth was going to get we changed our plans and headed back a night early and stayed at my parents house in Duluth.

They expected about 2-5 inches of fresh snow. But that ended up being about 10-12 inches. We set out at about noon on Friday and put on about 200+miles. Most of which was on untouched trails with 8 inches of fresh snow on them. It was unbelieveable. Total we put on around 550 miles in two days.

Here are a few pictures from Friday. I have ton more but these are the ones of all the fresh deep snow. I got home today and had to laugh since there is almost fucking grass growing in my yard.

Re: Snowmobiling

I think I am heading back up there next week if anybody wants to come along. I know Jim (TalonFiero) is up there right now livin it up. I bet the trails are getting pretty beat up by now though, because when I left they were already getting hit pretty hard.

Man I am jealous. 8-10 inches of fresh snow... I wish I still had my sled, I already have the vacation time saved up.

Re: Snowmobiling

Craig is right, it was a blast. Heading back up next weekend.

broke a lot of trail, trashed a golf course in Bovey that had over two feet of snow, and rode all around the Grand Rapids, Hill City, Remer, Outing, Emily area. Set a new personal record of 255 miles in one day. Trails were awesome this morning too after the groomers were out last night. Should have some cool pictures to display soon.

Re: Snowmobiling

Wow Im jelous guys!

I just got back from hayward where they got 2" of that Duluth snowstorm on Friday... there was about 14" on the ground so it wasnt bad, and the lakes were good, but nothing near what you guys had! Did a little fishing too, caught a bunhc of panfish. Yea winter down here is really sucking, but that makes spring only that much closer.
