loud ticking

After turning my boost controller the wrong way running just a bit too much boost for about a minute drive total, I immediately turned the car off, turned my boost to about stock, and turned the car back on to realize a loud ticking around the intake manifold/top of valve cover. It drove all the way home but still ticked.

95tsi awd talon, mbc, exhaust, ic piping, stock turbo, stock 7 bolt. everything else shouldnt have anything to do with this.

Re: loud ticking

Scary lol. Check your oil, if its low fill it. That could help. Also, lifter tick is extremely common in 2Gs. Its more of a nice tick tick tick tick coming from the valve cover area. My friends car starting tickin one day. It was a really loud ticking coming from the engine, definately not lifter tick. Turns out the engine was fucked. So! Depending on how severe the noise is, if its really bad, scary bad, pull the oil pan and valve cover and look for anything wrong.

Re: loud ticking

You could pull the valve cover and see if a rocker fell off. Check to see if there is a lot of pressure coming out of the PCV too.

Re: loud ticking

Turbo shaft play is fine and only smoking cause it's cold as fuck in mn.
I will check the valve cover though cause I need to change that gasket anyway. The ticking was much less sever today but still a louder ticking then normal. Not obnoxious while in the car though so that was nice. Who knows all I know is last night sounding then a sticking a metal rod in a steel fan on high.
