Truck Pictures

I took these after spending way too much time detailing my truck one day about a month ago. Stayed tuned to see what happens when the wax I used on my mirrors and door handles(which was listed on the bottle as plastic compatible) is exposed to the environment.

Re: Truck Pictures

Is that the Powerjoke you blew up and are replacing with a Cummins?

Re: Truck Pictures

It was powered by a Powerstroke with all the usual bolt-ons. A twin turbo'd '01 Cummins w/P7100 pump is what's going in it. I'm just about ready to order a few more parts and then a buddy of mine is gonna trailer it from Texas for me. I would have already had it here but I decided to buy the AWD TSi and put the truck on the back burner for a little bit. I'm really looking forward to seeing the boost guage rock out @ 70+psi!

Re: Truck Pictures

yeah, a lot of ford guys are replacing their powerjokes with the Cummins.

I wish actually ford would make their F350's with cummins. The only reason i went with Dodge truck is because they are the only ones puting the Cummins into trucks that are affordable by people.

When you're ready to do a Cummins swap into an F350 just let me know.

I wonder why the Powerjokes are exactly that, a joke(IMHO). Navistar has been around the diesel engine market for years but yet is having their engines pulled and replaced with Cummins.

Price of aftermarket parts. I can build a whole Cummins for what a set of performance injectors cost for a 7.3 Powerstroke. Just in the last year the Powerstroke aftermarket has really started to make some headway, but with serious pricetags. The latest rage is to use a dual stage high pressure oil pump to feed the injectors. One of those HPOP kits costs more than $2k. Add a set of $2,800 injectors, $2,500 turbo kit, head studs, good rods, exaust, custom tuning, etc. There are tons of guys with $15k in their powerstrokes and they are just getting to the 600RWHP area with drugs. You can find an old tired 12V P-pump'd Cummins and throw a couple thousand dollars worth of performance parts at it and have a reliable 450+RWHP engine that will run and run and run.
Now the 6.0 Powerstrokes HAUL A$$ with just a couple of bolt-ons. With exaust and some electronics you can make sick horsepower. You just can't get greedy 'cause they will bust head gaskets.
Cummins are just a cheaper and more reliable alternative if you're looking to make some horsepower.

Dodge:

+
cummins
front/rear ends

-
steering rack
transmission

I'm not going to do anything right now, i'm not willing to spend $10k on a 2002+ F350 shell thats in good condition. Plus i'd have to get the trany as well.
Are you just using an adopter plate for trany mount?

The 5.9 Cummins does not have a factory installed bell housing, only a bolt pattern on the back of the block. Remember, it's an industrial motor that's designed to be easily adaptable to compressors, heavy equipment, etc. Dodge makes their own trans adapter to bolt a Cummins to their transmissions, plus their NV4500 (5-speed) and NV5600 (6-speed). There are a couple of people who custom machine trans adapters to fit different transmissions. If you run a Ford automatic you will also have to get a Baumann transmission controller. If you have a ZF-6 like me, it's as simple as bolting the custom trans adapter to the Cummins and slipping a spacer between an 01+ Cummins HO flywheel and reusing the Dodge style clutch/pressure plate. The input shaft splines are the same for the NV5600 and the ZF-6. Pretty much plug and play for the transmission adapter side of it. I already had a 13" LuK conversion clutch behind my Powerstroke, so I'm reusing it for the time being. I think my 13" clutch/pressure plate and flywheel weigh more than my whole DSM transmission. For a 6-speed truck, I don't think you can beat the lowend torque of the Cummins. Better fuel mileage, more power and cheaper....? I don't think it was much of a decision between the Powerstroke and Cummins for me.

Re: Truck Pictures

Cliff Notes: Royal Blue polish, wax, and scratch remover is shit, never use it.

This is what has happened to my mirrors and door handles since I detailed my truck. The product I used is some stuff I picked up at the Montana State Fair called Royal Blue. It is a polish, wax, and scratch remover. On the bottle, it is explicitly listed that it can be used on plastic. So I figured that it would act like rubbing compound does on plastic in terms of removing oxidation; wow was I wrong. As you can see from the pictures, my mirrors, door handles, and any other plastic area have developed a white haze over them. After going back and forth with the company, Elite Products, for damn near a month, they finally shipped me some stuff which is supposed to remove the Royal Blue. I have a package sitting at the post office which I am assuming is the remover so I'm hoping to test it out yet this week. Elite Products did not want to help me out at all until I threatened to contact a lawyer about suing their ass for replacement mirrors and door handles from what their product f*cked up. That's when they finally started to listen even though they still bitched at me the entire time saying I should have known that the Royal Blue is only to be used on smooth plastic surfaces (my mirrors and door handles are a rough plastic). Yet all along, the damn bottle says right on it that it can be used on plastic surfaces. Anyways, the pictures tell the story....
