USB crashing computer

hey guys. i never had a problem with this but for some fucking reason what ever i hook up in the usb port of my laptop it makes it crash and i have to restart the damn computer. does anyone know what the fuck is going on?!

i even tried formatting and it still gets pissed off

How old is your laptop? For example, my desktop (purchased 8/02) is too old to be running 2.0. Is it one continual connection that causes your laptop to crash or have you tried different things? The reason I'm asking is because it may be that you're trying to connect to something which requires USB 2.0 and since you're not running 2.0, it's crashing your computer. (At least that's how I've understood what some of the latest USB devices can do, somebody please correct me if I'm wrong though.)

i bought it in 04/02. funny thing is like i said, i never had this problem until now.. i cant hook up my mouse or by burner
