Anyone good at tuning?

Just finished up with my winter build and figured out I suck at tuning. I have V3 and installed some BM 1450's, switched to e-85, and switched to speed density. I can get it to start when I feather the gas a little but as soon as I let off the gas, it dies. My WB seems to jump around and I can't seem to get it dialed in with my deadtimes. Is there anyone that can lend a hand one day that has some experience tuning e-85 and SD? I live in Maple Plain.

Re: Anyone good at tuning?

But I need a tune before I can bring it there. I want to be able to drive it to where I get it tuned. I am either going to DB or MAP. I just don't feel like blowing it up, I tuned my car last year but that was with 93 and 780 injectors. E-85 and SD are new to me and can't seem to get whole of it. Anyone local familiar with it?

Re: Anyone good at tuning?

Do you still have the stock mass? getting it started on the stock mass will be alot easer. then you can either drive it to Shane. Or get it close on the mass then switch to speed density. If you havent already sighn up on the dsmlink forum there is alot more info on there.

Re: Anyone good at tuning?

I do have a stock mass but don't have a pipe to fit it to my Turbo and when I did my wire tuck, I made it so the stock connector is located towards the back of the engine bay. Does Shane make house calls? Haha that would be sweet. If he could hook me up with a tune to get there, I would for sure take it to him.

He doesn't really do house calls but I'd be willing to bet he could give you a base config that could at least get you to DB (on no boost).

Re: Anyone good at tuning?

Well I guess I will give him a call and see what he can do. They should come up with something like DB to go, would be amazing.

Re: Anyone good at tuning?

Ya I just through that twice to bring my car to MAP for some Fab work, would like to drive it and save $57. Just my luck, Shane is out for the day so I have to wait until tomorrow.

Re: Anyone good at tuning?

You should be able to dial-in base settings and drive the car to DB out of boost.

What is your deadtime and global for the injectors? Base fuel pressure? All ethanol in the tank or some pump mixed in too?

Speed density requires proper working map sensor among a couple other things. Do you have everything wired in correctly? Consult this link http://www.ecmtuning.com/wiki/sdsetup

Re: Anyone good at tuning?

Global is -53.5% and deadtime is 435. FP is set at 45 and it is all e-85 in tank. I have the bundle from ecmtuning along with their plug and play cable. I have V3 but just can't seem to get it to idle right. I am gonna check my electrical timing tonight and give it another shot.

Re: Anyone good at tuning?

well e85 is not idle friendly ... my car refuse's to idle on it ... but besides the point

speed density is not that hard to set up i believe dsmlink v3 has a auto tune function that is set up for base tune .. what dose your wide band say. That is your friend . Did you read the manual, it explains how speed density works and how to set it up .

www.ecmlink.com read the pdf on set up its painfull to read and understand but it can be explained

More horseshit information regarding: E85 and tuning.

I've had my car on link v2 idle link the bee's knee's on E85, old version 1600s and BC 280s.
You should probably take your car to a local shop and hope they don't turn you away for a tune.

but .. we for got one thing every Car no matter what is different.

You could have the same setup and one might run like crap one will run fine
its like saying every 1600cc injector flows the same .. my car idles good when im consistent at filling up at one specific pump when i change a gas stations car runs different cause the blend of 85 is different hence crap idle i have to change dead time to fix it ..

Why would you use deadtime to tune ethanol percent? Deadtime is to tune to your specific injector, not fuel type or blend; that's what injector size compensation is for (besides for actual injector size and base fuel pressure). If ethanol % really is messing up your tune, it will change it at WOT too, not just idle. Deadtime has the largest effect at the lowest IPW's.

If you use closed loop like stock (I don't, I run open loop all the time), then it shouldn't even matter anyways as the ECU will correct it.

You have issues then, and a finicky setup. Both my 1g & 2g both idle great on E85, and I can set the AFR leaner than most would dream of and still have a good idle.

No doubt, over the last 4 years, I have had virtually every format of 4G6x (low, and high compression, 2.0, 2.1 standard rod, 2.1 long rod, 2.3, and 2.4) and they have all idled rock solid with 1600cc+ injectors dispensing E60-98 mixtures - no idle control, and a very archaic batch-file stand-alone...

As long as AFR's and timing was somewhat within expected values, it idled just fine.

YMMV
