Looking at a project car, Not sure what its worth.

Well, me and the GF decided to just live with one daily driver so i am looking at a project car. The car i found is a White 1990 TSI. The car is pretty flawless, Cali car so no rust, but there is also no motor. But i am trying to figure out what to offer the guy. Here are some specs

1990 talon TSI 100,000+ miles on the car itself.
Car has no motor, but he does have a trans.
3 inch exhaust
FMIC,
MAFT with GM maf
SAFC,
Mint interior.

I have no idea what i should pay the guy cause i see these cars going for all different prices around here.

Any help would be great. Thanks.

A DSM with no motor and over 100k on the shell? I wouldn't pay a dime over $600. Especially sight unseen. Pictures can do wonders for POS cars.

He said its flawless so he must have seen it. With a mods list like that and a good body Id say 800 is fair if the transmission is good, and like turbotalon1g says, if the exhaust and FMIC isnt homemade junk, lol.

agreed with goodhart. remember, these are close to being 20 year old cars. I'm guessing it doesn't have the 4 bolt rear also. I'd offer him no more than $500 because you're going to be pouring 10x the amount of money you paid for the shell to have it run pretty good.

I wouldn't get a project car if you had to get rid of your last one for money. No matter what you start out with they end up taking a decent amount of money.

I wouldn't pay shit for a DSM, the only things worth a damn u listed are the exhaust and FMIC and if its some homemade junk then they arent worth crap either.

$600 would have to be my max too.

Re: Looking at a project car, Not sure what its worth.

I'll try to get some pics of the car. I did go look at it a couple months ago, just was waiting to decide on what to do. Wanted to think this through.

As for when i sold my last car i did sell it to get some money, but since then things have taken a turn for the best. And I was planning on selling the car anyway to switch to an AWD car. The winters get pretty nasty here and AWD is almost a must for a car like that here. They dont take very good care of the roads.

The guy said he will let it for $500. And i have another motor laying around so its not a big deal. But i want to take my time and build it to be pretty decent. I really do like these cars no matter how much others hate them. lol. and have always wanted a fairly fast street car. So this is not gonna be a quick through it together car. I wanna take some time on it. I know alot of people will say these aren't worth it, but they make some good numbers when built and tuned right.

The fmic is a decent one, couldn't find a brand name, but it is a 1g specific kit. I wasn't to worried about the SAFC. Never used one so probably not gonna use on this car, but who knows. And the exhaust looked pretty decent, not all cut and hacked up.

And i probably shouldn't have said flawless, every car has something, but for a ND car its in really good shape.

I am not sure on the rear end. The car has the lsd label on the door jamb, and the owner said its never been changed out, so i am hoping that it still is in there.

I'd definitely buy it for $500 if it's only missing the engine, and it's that nice.

I would love to buy that one, but i only have about $700 bucks to spend and wouldn't have any way to get it here. lol. Thats my only problem. This one is in town and i can borrow a buddys truck for an hour or so to get it.
