My first project "The Beast"

This my first build for a DSM, and i'm trying to do what I do. The motor is only 60% done but it's coming along, trans is built with all the goodies and PTT twin disk. It should be done next week. Once it's back, it's on to get a little body and paint work done. I made a little slide show.

Very nice! Quite a collection of quality parts!

Is that a jhm manifold? I probably got the name wrong, but he's that guy from wisconsin with the low 9sec 150mph 1g.

Re: My first project "The Beast"

Thanks. Yep that's Jake, he's a cool guy. It's a JHRacing manifold. The design is crazy. I know it will help spool up but I want to see how much power i will gain from it.

I thought it might be an oil cooler, is the radiator just not installed in the slide show?

Re: My first project "The Beast"

It's a custom spec triple ball bearing Comp Turbo. It's made from the ground up just for racing.

Re: My first project "The Beast"

They do have a resemblance. That's some nice welding and fab work.

It's still 2.0 I'm not ready to jump to full drag car, I like to cruise the streets, and it will be capable of running laps at the track. My next setup I will have the motor destroked to 2.1 and have 11,000rpm red line. But that's years away. Right now it's a all around race car . No drifting.

DSM builds are either really nice or really crappy; good work!

Re: My first project "The Beast"

Good luck getting a DSM to shift at 11k rpm! I am not sure if even a dogbox would shift that high and I doubt the engine would last. As of 2004 Shep was shifting at 9,800 rpm.

First thing first, you are correct it won't be 11,000rpm but it will be 10,000 rpm. Mike Reichen who is going to tune my car has a Shep Dog Box and shifts at 10,000 rpm in his Evo 2 with no issues and has been doing so through his runs at the Texas mile and Maxton Mile since 2007, and the engine would last. It wouldn't be streetable, but it would last. At that point it's a full drag car. I'll just have Class One Engines do my block like Reichen's. But that's years away.

Now for the turbo It's not that simple. These aren't off the shelf parts. Both wheels are custom. It's 70mm the same size as a baby 42r. I can only compare my turbo to turbo's of similar size because I'm actually the only person with this turbo, I never stated any rpm for spoolup. There is no secret I'm withholding. So it's a 70mm compressor wheel ( it's not a Garrett 70mm P trim or 42r wheel) and Comp Turbo's turbine, which is there own design and not a Garrett turbine, with Comp Turbo's own ceramic triple ball bearing CHRA.

Re: My first project "The Beast"

Looks decent man, what parts did you use in the motor and what type of 'racing' is that turbo designed for? road racing? drag? Judging by the dual wastegates, it's probably fairly big...but how big?

Keep us updated!

Re: My first project "The Beast"

The radiator is not in yet. Still have to do wiring, radiator, catch cans, and a number of a couple of things.

The engine has ross piston, crower rods, port & polished job, FP 4r cams, etc. Red line is 8500rpm. Ported and polished Forrester intake mani with Q45 throttle body.

The turbo is a .70 twin scroll T4. It's around the size of a 40r but will make more power than a baby 42r and spool up much ,much faster than both. It's big but will spool fast enough for me to lower the boost and do some road racing.

Re: My first project "The Beast"

We aren't noobs around here, what turbo is it? TS T4 doesn't narrow it down much, nor does the .70 ar compressor cover.
