Starter problems

this is on a 1992 TSi

So the car has an engine transplant and we are hooking everything back up. We are ready to start the engine and turned the key and spun the starter. The starter just spun and didn't spin the engine at all. Ok so we thought bad starter so we switched and installed another one. Same result. We rechecked all the grounds and made sure connections are tight. Can anyone think of what we have missed. We are at a loss right now. Also as you turn the key to start the car, it makes a weird clicking noise for just a little bit. Soming is wrong with the silonoid?

Re: Starter problems

when you try to start it, do the lights start to flash on and off? if so than i've had the same problem. i would first check the ecu cause mine got fried after that and i had to replace it. but eventually the problem came back after i relieved the fuel pressure system. you should turn the key on but don't try to ignite it and than push the window botton. just try, cause thats what i did to get my car to start.i thought it was the starter as well but when i took it to test at auto zone, it passed.

Re: Starter problems

Took apart everything and put it back together. It runs AND moves!
