Fair Tax Plan

Ok, so getting away from all the hurricane stuff and getting to a subject of taxes.

What do people think about the Fair Tax Plan?

For those who don't know what I 'm talking about here are some basics:

"Simply put, the FairTax replaces the way we're currently taxed - based on our annual income - with a tax on goods and services. The FairTax is a voluntary “consumption" tax: the more you buy, the more you pay in taxes, the less you buy, the less you pay in taxes. "

- income tax = gone.
- straight tax on amt spent of anywhere from 25% - 30% of the product price.
- irs = gone
- power back to the general public
- poeple who spend crazy dollars end up paying the major taxes

Here are some links:

I think I would love for this to happen. Being able to actually get every dime you work for in your pocket and then control what goes to the governemtn by what you spend. Those who buy the big dollar homes, cars, ect will dish out the majority of the taxes. While those who are on the poverty side of life will have some control and ability to get out from under the rug.

Thoughts?

Re: Fair Tax Plan

so basicly people making big bucks get to keep it, because they sure as hell don't spend it.
and poor people will have HELL of a time buying anything new because prices increased by 30% on everything.

No more new businesses because its too expensive to buy properties etc etc.

Re: Fair Tax Plan

Spending would defenitly go way down. The black market wold be huge and many people would be shopping more on the internet. Things being shipped from other countries wouldn't look to expensive anymore.

Re: Fair Tax Plan

I don't think spending will go down. Last night this was on the new and it's made clear spending in the US has only dropped 1 time in terms of dollar amt spent and that was during WW2.

I don't think it will change how people spend their money, cause the amt people are now taxed on the paychecks is out of our control and has an effect on spending itself. A flat sales tax, in my eyes, will just collect more taxes from those who spend the most money.

I don't know, I think it's a good idea cause I'd like to be abe to control how much I give to the government.

Re: Fair Tax Plan

It would give people more incentive to save because some would look at it as the price going up even though they are pocketing a little more money also. I don't think it would work too well because with a 30% tax many people will try to somehow cheat the system. How would state taxes work? I didn't read it, but state taxes are different from state to state generally.

Re: Fair Tax Plan

If we'd cut this son-of-a-bitchin 600+ BILLION dollar deficit we have with son-of-bitchin CHINA and keep the jobs in the United States, we be able to employ the poor with better jobs and the poor without jobs therefore bringing more taxes available. 600B my friends! Do you know how many goods it takes to equal that? Hurricane Andrew swallowed about 27 BILLION. That's nowhere close to $600B with CHINA. If the fucking son of bitching government would get off their fucking asses and do something for the people of America for once we'd be a better off place. Our jobs are going across seas. A hell of alot of our taxpaying dollars are going across seas. I think the President and rest of the government does these favors for China and other countries just to make them happy and keep a war from starting. Meanwhile, it's milking us dry.

Sorry for my thoughts but after this week, the government isn't very high on my list right now.
