What is this device?

I need help identifying a electrical part (believe it is some sort of solenoid) that is on a 1990 63 I have. It is located on the triangular shaped bracket below the intake manifold, to the left of the knock sensor. It's not touching the block or anything it is just mounted on the said bracket. Here are some photos... I had to pull it out because there is no way to fit a camera in there.

The connector:

The only reason I ask about this object is because I do not have anything to plug it into on my wiring harness. This might be because it's a 90 motor and I have a 91 car? Anyhow, I looked through both the manuals and did not find anything. Can somebody please set me straight? Oh, also I need a new knock sensor. Where is the cheapest place to get one in the cities?

Thanks!

Re: What is this device?

That is the noise filter for the coils. The 91+ has it built into the coil pack instead of separate.
