Used DSMs
As some of you know, I bought my third DSM from a kid named Blake. Apparently, Blake has quite a reputation around here with some folks from DSMStyle. Anyways, I bought my red 92 Talon with a quite a few bolts on installed. Today, as I tore the car apart to do the timing belt (he didnt have records of doing, so its piece of mind for me), headgasket, and some other items, I found a bunch of silly stuff. The turbo bolts were not tight at all, nor were the exhaust manifold nuts. There was NO BOLT IN THE FRONT MOTOR MOUNT, essentially making it useless. There was just a bunch of stupid little shit I found that made me shake my head. It just made me ponder how the car had put it together in the past. But then I realized he told me Rick Shindley did most of the work for him. Go figure. At least now everything is to my liking, and I'm fixing shit that might have gone unnoticed. Wish me luck on that t-belt! Hell I even had to fabricate a tool to take the timing cover bolt out from behind the waterpump wheel the pulley bolts to. It has been fun so far! Just a few cut knuckles and the head is off.

Re: Used DSMs
HAHAHA. Also does anyone know if he got it rebuilt? When we took off the head I looked at the pistons and to me they looked like the same pistons I have(Topline Rebuild). And I just thought of this and it might not make sence but could that Fd up injector be a leak when doing a compression test? Cuz I believe it came out of cylender 1 witch on his car was all gheyd up.

Re: Used DSMs
Funny shit, Blake and I used to get into arguments quite frequently, it was great. I believe his screen name on here is B.A.
Hopefully things turn out OK for you with the car!

Re: Used DSMs
So you buy some used car and hear that Rick worked on it at some point and blame him for all the problems? There's just NO possibility that this previous owner had something to do with these problems? Funny how people here are quick to judge with little to no actual information.

I was just poking fun at all the drama associated around Rick. I personally have had good experiences with Rick, and I have no complaints other than he sure talks alot.

Yes, Please clairify AS you make those kind statements if your only joking, as some people feed their families off from their reputations!
Ricks done only great work on my car in the past, and didn't seem sloppy in the least to me?

Re: Used DSMs
All this shit has been covered a million times before. Rick has done good work for a lot of people in the DSM community. Yes he has done some suspect things that didn't go over so well. He is not here to defend himself so I don't want his name being brought up anymore. Like Steve said, the dumbfuck you bought it from could have very well hacked the car together. All the things you described are not things I have heard of Rick doing in the past. I mean someone who has been around DSMs for that many years would not cut them corners when putting together a car. A lot of problems arise with some of the older DSM mechanics is when they don't adapt to the future and live in the past too much, like when 16G was a huge turbo and 17lbs of boost was a lot to drive on the street.
If you have problems with your car we will help you, but don't drag someone into this who works on these cars for a living and is not here to defend himself. If you really want to know why don't you call him and find out if he did work on the car, I am sure he would remember.

Re: Used DSMs
No, he wouldn't remember. He spent all day on my Talon hunting down an oil leak, couldn't find it, didn't charge me, and then two days later when I brought it back up he had mentioned I had an oil leak, but couldn't find where it came from. I would venture to say he probably can't remember where he lives if he left for more than a day... Nice guy though.

Re: Used DSMs
I am guessing rick didn't do the fmic and stuff. I thought I heard blake wanted the car really bad from rick with not much really done it and bought it. I am guessing rick already did the hg and t belt but who knows how many miles were on it since blake got it and sold it. I was wondering what happened to him.

Re: Used DSMs
a DSM that has changed hands many times is like a $2 hooker.
You can expect anything from it, and it is probably falling apart.

Re: Used DSMs
I remember Blake, he was all hot to trot to buy my car and calls me up a few days later saying he bought a car from Rick that wasn't even ready to sell yet. I throw out a wild guess here and say Blake screwed up what Rick had done to that car, he was too cheap to pay someone else to do what he could not.

Re: Used DSMs
I remember Blake. He bought the car from shindley. I believe shindleys neighbor painted the car for him. I remember him saying he had a a bunch of parts including a turbo (some odd hybrid which he compared WG flappers with someone at the dynofest), fmic, injectors, etc.

Re: Used DSMs
Blake was a nice kid the few times I dealt with him. And yes that was kind of a harsh comment towards Rick. I've been his customer a few times, and agian, he has done good work for me. But, I must say overall the car has been, and looks problem-less. I think I got a decent deal for the car the way it sits.
