I was browsing through the quest forums after i became interested in getting redline products, but i found something of interest. I know alot of you guys like to use shockproof in the rear end.
One of the members, who contacted Redline themselves, got a response saying that shockproof SHOULD NOT be used in the rear end.

Dude, do you believe everything you read on the net? Do you really think a redline rep would tell you to put amsoil in your car? Only the first post was a reply from a rep. That said you should mix MTL and 90 together and put it in your tranny. The guy that posted that about the rear end propably is a D-Bag and all information probably not taken as gospil.

Anytime you hear anything online you should consider it just a data point untli you do more of your own research. Taking something you hear and repeating it as gospel is not a great idea. At any rate, I am sure there is a public # for Redline to answer any questions you might have a fear about.

First off, that guy did infact get a reply from redline. The first post did also, but the person I am quoting recieved one as well.
Second, what i quoted is what the person said, NOT what Redline said. Not that hard to figure out. The last part is what the redline guy said, just not maybe directly what he said.
And the person im quoting is not a moron by any means. He was one of the more knowledgable people on that site.

Don't get your panties in a twist, Eric's point is legit. If it is important, it is worth double checking. None of us know the guy you are getting your info from regardless of his reputation in the other forum.

I can make a call in the morning and chat with Cheryl. They are very good about knowing what is used in what application. They where the ones that told me the specific ATF for the DSMs, and they know many of our customers are using Shockproof in thier rear ends for daily driven applications. I will get some more info tomorrow.

Just so ya guys know, i was only trying to perhaps warn of impending danger, so to speak. I figured if this stuff was only for racing, then the DSMs that use it daily might be hurting something. Personally, I don't really care that much.

Thanks for bringing it up. I just put it in my car and would like to know before I start to drive it if it's going to hurt my car. (considering I just replaced my read Diff)
Allan please call your Rep today. I'd like to know. I just spent the last 4 months trying to find a good rear diff. I don't want to have to scramble in the next 2 weeks for another one. hehe.

I spoke with one of the techs just a few min ago and there is a bit of additive in the SP but not as much as you would find in the MT 90 for daily driven applications. The SP is meant for racing applications but seriously, to some on here that's also you normal race application. lol
If your worried about it toss in MT 90 if you want redline still. If you want the shit that's suppose to help under some serious play time. Stick to the SP.

Just to throw my 2 cents in......... In the 3/S world, people use 75w-90 Redline gear oil in the rear diff. I've never heard of putting shockproof heavy or MT-90 in there. Its pretty much a no-brainer.

Ahh... I see. I've got both bottles in my garage, and they look different. But MT-90 may be the same weight, but not the same product as the Redline 75w-90.

Also, is it true that you shouldn't use synthetics during a "break-in" period? Could it possibly hurt things while they aren't fully in spec or whatever?

You can break-in gears with synthetics, but not an engine.
