overheating issue

Hello, I have a 92 laser with minor bolt ons.

My car seems to be leaking coolant on the metal water pipe that goes under the turbo. It also over heats, I have no heat. Today i went to go start it, and it did, but it would idle at 800 and then go to 1500 and then went to 3000 RPM. needless to say i shut it off and parked it for the day. Would anyone know what is up with my car? any further questions?

well that pipe comes straight off of your water pump, so it coule be that the seal between the two went bad.

you have no heat? warm coolant isn't getting to your heater core

heat related idle issues usually seem to boil down to the FIAV in your throttle body, and wouldn't you know it, QPR knows exactly how to get rid of that nasty little device.

whens the last time you changed your thermostat?

Couldnt the no heat issue be the water pump being broken? Hence the coolant leakage?

No heat would mean it is low on coolant, the water pump is dead (did it squeal at all?), or the heater hose is blown (BIG mess). Check the belt on the water pump to make sure that is still there and turning. Then make sure the pulley for the water pump is turning.

Ussually no heat is due to a fualty thermostat. Or in your case low coolant (what it seems if its leaking all out).

Fill it back up, change your thermostat and see if that helps. If it does, fix the leak.

Peter is likely right, thermostat likely failed closed. Doesn't happen that way often, but when it does, it causes exactly what you are describing. Start there, like I said on the phone, it is the first thing to check in that situation.

I also vote for checking the thermostat. I changed mine out over the summer and it made almost a 30 degree operating temp difference. Also, be sureand find the leak and fix it. Replacing the thermostat may solve a lot of your problems but a coolant leak is not good.

I had the same issue. Thermostat fixed it. I'd start there because it is very cheap and simple. Then work your way around. It is probably stuck shut.

I think it has something to do with that pipe that runs below the turbo(metal one) Its just the seal im hoping, and my theromostat was bad. thanks for all the help guys.
