Looking for a long hill
Just like the topic says. I am looking for a very long hill with a pretty steep grade without large wind issues like the hill going into D town by Lake Superior. The longer and steeper, the better.

Re: Looking for a long hill
I was thinking a bit more local, although a warmer climate does sound tempting.

Re: Looking for a long hill
Skateboarding at 90 MPH is fun, or I could be doing some research. Not sure there is a hill long enough to acomplish a 13 with the blue sponge in it's current state.

Re: Looking for a long hill
I thought about that one, I would also like one that is less patrolled. I have till spring to find the appropriate hill.
In order of importance, the most significant things I am looking for are 1. Low wind issues. 2. Long length 3. Steep grade 4. smooth pavement 5. light traffic 6. light popo count
Lets see how smart you folks are.
Given what I am after, what am I doing with the hill in question?

Re: Looking for a long hill
are you going to quantitatively test some aero mods and see which one rolls farther?

Re: Looking for a long hill
You are on the right track sir. Not a test of how far it rolls. Starting from specific speeds with consistant operating temps including wheel bearing, brakes etc, you track time required to go from speed A to speed be. If the weight is consistant between tests including fuel levels etc, the results are extremely accurate for testing specific Aero mods.

I do like that idea. Maybe I could test his wind resistance if I stick him in a shopping cart. If he doesn't go on a diet soon (to reduce frontal area, the weight might help), he may not get much speed at all.

Re: Looking for a long hill
Excellent info on how to test aerodynic mods without the costs associated with a wind tunnel. An excellent prize if I do say so myself. Considering the Galants brick like design, this is probably a really valuable post for ya Joe.

Re: Looking for a long hill
I know of one in St. Cloud but that's a little too far. Very little traffic. Kinda downtown though. By the river.

You better look for a really long hill, like one in West Virginia.

Re: Looking for a long hill
He's right, Skylines don't need aerodynamics...
You could try the hill on 494 in Egan. When heading west it's pretty nice...good Vmax type road.
