So can we deport his whole family now? Since he was raised here, clearly his views had to be taught at home. Hell anyone read his senior yearbook message?

A shooting happened where there was a no guns sign and the shooter was probably Muslim.
So if we take down the no guns sign it wouldn't have happened? Who cares if he was Muslim. Dylann Roof wasn't a Muslim and he shot people also. What's your point?

Let's break it down like this,...
Would it have happened? Maybe,.... maybe not. But since the pattern seems to show these killers go to gun-free zones by choice, I'd say probably not.
Would a total of 4 marines be dead if they were armed? Probably not, nothing beats a well armed marine as a killing machine,..... So he might have gotten one, maybe two instead of 4 at this location and possibly a 5th at another location which I believe happened.
Same scenario at the ship yard last year, had those military personnel been carrying, the death toll would have been much less.

When I was in the Marines, I lived around people of all kinds at Camp Pendleton. We were never allowed to carry weapons unless we were training with them in the field. Even if we had weapons we only carried live rounds at the range. Otherwise our weapons were locked in the armory.
I never would've felt comfortable if weapons were allowed in the barracks or carried around all the time. You get people from every walk of life there. Most are fine. But you get your fair share of crazies and suicidals who aren't up to the task. You also have your raging, and I mean raging alcoholics. Nevermind the rest who only get into a stupor on the weekends. Living on base, it's not like you just get to go home at night, unless you're married. You live in the barracks with the people you work with. More than once I had the door in my room kicked in by some fuck in a black out that didn't know where they were.
FUCK NO! to weapons carried on base.

So you were a highly trained marine (as I assume all are or they wouldn't be marines)?
Which means you were highly trained in the proper use and storage of hand guns?
Along with barracks full of other highly trained marines who received the same training your did?
And you were afraid of those other highly trained marines with hand guns?
And you would rather be a sitting target to some crazy nut job than be able to defend your self?

I never once touched a hand gun in the Marines. Enlisted Marines are issued an M-16. Only Officers got an M9.
Many people become Marines because of pride. Many fuck ups also become Marines because it was either that or jail. Regardless, most 18 year old kids who get through boot camp are idiots. It takes a few years to know whether someone makes a good Marine or not.

This marine had enough time to text "active shooter" to his girlfriend during a conversation he was having with her when the shootings started. Plenty of enough time to draw and fire on a target when it all went down, if only he was armed.

So our marines are not trained in close quarters combat with hand guns in case they're threatened up close?

Meh. Same people on bases in Iraq and Afghanistan, and every one of us carried a weapon + plenty of ammo everywhere we went. Nobody ever got shot up over there, and that was having the ste]ressors of war ad being away from home added to your daily life. At home you have your family and everything, I think if it was going to happen it would happen over there before it would at home. Drugs and alcohol were just as easy to find over there too.

Shits going to happen either way. Being stationed over in the states, it was enough trouble babysitting the drunks that had that gone look in there eyes. On a side note, to you and all others who served - Thanks.

Terrible situation, and misguided shooter. Sounds like he was a normal dude until potentially his long trip to Jordan.
Like other threads have stated, lots of nuts of all religions and causes shooting up all over the world. This one was a Muslim, but could be anyone the next time we hear of a shooting. Unfortunately, there have been soo many "shootings" in recent years, its seems like an epidemic. And it's all sort of people with all sorts of upbringings.
Agreed there is a current rise in terrorists claiming to be Muslims. That simply sucks. It's interesting that social media and online videos are a way for bored and misguided youth to be pulled in without their families ever knowing.
As far as the deport the whole family comment. Wow, I don't even want to begin replying to that amazing statement.
It's interesting, but I wasn't aware the marines in this case, and others in the other cases noted above were not armed, or are not armed in general. When working, they should be armed imo. Off duty or whatever, sounds like they are just humans being normal!.. And probably shouldn't be armed.

The only time I was ever "armed" in the Marines was at rifle range when we would practice one week per year. And the one other time was a week I spent at port in the middle east, we were given ammo when we had watch. That's it. The other 99.9% of the time I was no where near an armed weapon, which includes my time in the middle east during OIF (other than my brief port visit mentioned above). Some people have this idea in their head of what the military is like. Bunch of highly trained badasses walking around ready to get down at any moment. Not reality. It's a bunch of 18-22 year Olds mostly just doing what kids that age do.
Wait, so the Expendables 1, 2, and 3 aren't based on reality?
Seriously though, I don't have a problem with not being armed, especially as a choice. I do have a problem with knowing we have the potential for what happened on U.S. soil and giving advertised locations (published gun free zones) to be at risk.
Let the military get a Carry permit like anyone else and abide by the laws set and not put them at a disadvantage right off the bat.
We already don't do enough for our vets, aiding in them being targets is just wrong. I was happy to see past vets with carry permits make the news standing guard themselves after these events.

I agree. And those citizens coming forward to guard those men, that was awesome!
