This came about from the thread about Brian's wastegate location Here is the last post:

why do you think it would run lean on #1 if the wastegate is on the #1 runner?

With the wastegate open you are going to have a LOT less restriction on the #1 runner compared to the other cylinders. You will have an open valve that is venting the exhaust gas straight out and not through the turbo. The exhaust has less retriction so more air flows out and allows more air in (valve overlap, although it is smaller in turbo'd cars). More air in means it runs leaner.

#1 and #2 tend to run lean anyways, it would make more sense to put it on the #4 runner if you are going to put it on the exhaust manifold.

I saw Buschur's post on that same topic years ago. Basically he said it works really well for him despite what it looks like on paper. I switch to an 02 mounted gate, but can't really make a comparison since I changed everything else as well.

you may have an open pipe so less restriction but you don't have the pulsing of the other 3 cylinders drawing the exhaust out

Ummm......what? It is turbo'd so you have back pressure there.

This is the tech section, please know what you are talking about if you are going to post.

I see his point. I am no where near an expert on here but I think he just worded it a bit wierd. The other 3 cylinders will be providing backpressure on the open one. Atleast that is how I read it.

I have my tial 38 mounted on the o2 housing though...
