Just to give you guys an update on what's been going on. Since I'm still waiting for my new, "new" engine I decided to send my trans off to TRE for some serious mods.

The only thing I haven't decided on yet is if I want to switch over to the higher 1st gear set. Has anybody gone with it and what did you think bout the higher first gear?

Saturday I pick up my new tranny with the long first gear! But I have no experience with em so I have no clue about how great or not it is.

I think it is a benefit. I have no experience with it but Id say if you have the power to use a longer gear then there will be benefits.

I asked Shep about that when he did my tranny. He said it actually hurts the launch having the taller first gear. He said it helps the 1-2 shift on a stock tranny, but he said with a double synchro 2nd it doesn't matter. He uses a stock 1st gear even with all the power he is making.

I have talked to him a bunch of times. I talked to him a couple of times at the shootout last year too. He is pretty cool. I got to check out his EMS logs last year.

I just talked to Shep as well when I sent my tranny off to him. He said he's seen alot of the Galant 1st gears breaking on high 10 second cars. He actually talked me out of half of the little junk I was going to get, like steel shift forks. He said he uses the stock aluminum ones and has never broken one.
