there is nothing better than a human eye for doing the registry... all of those "magic" utilities just have a set number of registry things that it looks for and if they are there it deletes them..

If you are good with registry your best bet would be to just look thru it and learn about it, and then start deleting stuff. If you do not have a lot of that experience i would suggest you stay out of there. its a catch 22 ... you can fix it but you can also break it really good

1. if you have Nortron Anti-Virus run it and do a full system scan (do a live update as well)

2. run Adaware

3. Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Disk Defragmenter
and defrag your computer

4. check what programs require the most mem usage and that may be your problem

5. run windows update

what windows are you currently using?

is the registry the programs running in the background? I have something like 40 things going on and I try to stop the ones that are bad, but I don't know which ones are good either. I think that is what is slowing down my computer. Anyone know how to tune up computers?

Thanks Eric, that's exactly kind of what I was trying to get at

I never know what processes that are running in the background could be killed, or how to stop them from even starting if they are not needed and just taking up my space (and time!!).

you could also use the system restore feature as well on XP

Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Restore

that always seemed to work for me if i had a problem, i would just restore the computer to a time the computer worked well.
