That is a very good question. If this is your only car, I would buy a dead tranny and ship it off to Shep to be rebuilt, then swap them or have someone swap them.

If it were me, I would buy a dead tranny (Raptor had one for $100 out of a 91) and drop it off at ricks for a rebuild.

^ im with him. DO NOT go to the dealer for a rebuild... others can do it MUCH cheaper. I got raped... that was 1 month before I knew about "other" people...

Just make sure you order some goodies for the rebuild.. unless you want it stock.

If it is any concilation to you, I went through the same problem recently in my GS-T...Hole in the bell housing. First, do you know why there is a hole? That could be a whole slew of problems!

Anyways, I did it myself with the help of some friends...Wasn't too bad, just time consuming. Getting it out is fairly straight forward, follow the shop manual.

As far as getting the tranny hole fixed that's another ball game. You need to take apart the tranny, which I also did. Nothing too complicated, just a lot of parts. I got mine welded at Lake Welding in Stillwater, he charges $65 an hour, which is what it cost me. I know Raptor on this site also welds aluminum you should have him do it for you...Not sure on his rates though.

Good Luck!!!

I looked at the trans with the hole and the hole is in the bell housing but something came from inside the trans and it wont hold any gear oil. The owner thinks the very tip of the halfshaft broke off and tore a hole in the trans. He says the clutch and gears are fine. So Tim, since there is a leak, you will need a new trans case and bell housing. But, there may be some other problems with the trans that you cant see until you get it all apart.

I'm betting good money that the front diff blew up in that one too...I couldn't tell anything was wrong except the fluid leak, that is until I took it apart and found the gear missing a tooth!
