Any of you guys race snowmobiles? I was out on lake Waconia on sat for the radar runs and drag racing event. It was awesome!!. I have a friend who has a Yamaha RX1 sled. This thing has the same 1000cc motor as a R1 street bike, not only that it has a turbo. I watched him make a few passes on it at 120mph in 1000 feet. That is 320 feet less than a drag strip. So we get to talking in the pits and my buddy asked me if I wanted to make a passs, the next thing you know I'm making the first pass. This thing about threw me off, the acceleration was harder than my racecar. I get back to the pits and the slip 117 mph. Well not out done I made another pass. This time I ran 125mph just 4 mph sort of the fastest this sled had ever gone. Man in the pits these guys we going crazy, telling me "Im a nut and I need to be racing one of these sleds" Yea rite. I would kill myself. Just thought you guys would get a kick out of this. That sled ripps ass

Yea I love those RX1's, we have a 600 SX and I think that thing hauls with studs.... But man the RX1 is insane. Is that the one I saw for sale at maverick motorsports that laid down 280 Horses and was for sale? It has a turbo also..

Thats my dream sled. Im going up north this weekend. Should be fun.

you guys ever been to hay-days? well a few years back they did a race after the even to see who could go the fastest... well in i believe it was 500 or 800 feet a guy got going i believe 128mph? i think thats what it was. but none the lass 120-130mph in 800ft? he still holds the record there...the other part of the story is that the guy after the run hit a rock that was barried down but after the day wore on the track it exposed the rock. well he hit the rock going roughly 90ish on the slow down and got thrown from the sled and ended up hittin the hay bails at the end of the track along with his sled. Which ended up having him being air lifter to a nearest hospital where I believe he broke his femer. tibula and his arm or something like that. That just goes to show that you gotta pay to play in his case he payed and payed bad!

its crazy to hear of a sled with 1000cc engine but turbocharged also would be just boobies. i saw on the internet someone through in a little helicopter engine (allision 250 turboshaft) into a sled. that would be cool to have to but fueling it all the time would suck.

Damn, you've got balls. I hadn't ridden a snowmobile in 20 years and a friends offers to take me riding. He gives me a Ski Doo MXZ 800 with some mods to ride. Holy shit, they're a little faster today than my old 1971 Ski Doo Elan 12 hp. The fastest I went was 95 mph and that was good enough, they're a little tippier than a car. I bet I averaged at least 65 mph for 4+ hours of riding though. :smoker:

The last one I was one was a old John Deer pile of scrap. It would pull a sled just fine, but man did that thing need a fucking tune up.

sounds like crazy fun. not much snow out here though. i want to go check out the crazy ass sandrails (dune buggies) out here. 600hp BBC powered 4 seaters that weigh like 1300lbs are not uncommon. INSANE

My brother's soon to be father inlaw built a Polaris 700 chassis with a 1200cc Polaris watercraft motor that trapped well over 120 mph in 1000'. All motor about 160HP. I think it eventually went 132MPH in the 1000'.

His 16yr old daughter at the time piloted it, I think she only weighed around 100lbs.

snowmobiling is teh fun.

the contact patch is like 4 square feet on the long track ones heh. no wonder then get traction..

and on snow and ice, you get the nice 2 inch paddle track with big ass studs and your a'flyin in no time.
