Hey... So I was trying to launch the Spyder last night; I rev'ed it up to 3000-3500 and then feathered the clutch out; the trouble I had was after the clutch was out and I gave it gas and i was boosting, I had nothing but crazy wheel spin through first gear; I had to let off the gas to get it to stop.
Anyway lets just say this wasnt the "ideal" situation for me, and I was wondering if you all had any tips reguarding this.
The spyder is stock for right now, I did warm the tires up a bit before I ran; 14b w/ 2G install is on the way.
Thanks!
Jim

Get some 235/65R15 slicks, 205/55R16s are shit to get a good launch, but I drop the clutch at 2500-3000 and than shut off the wipers.

when i had my eclipse, all i did was rev it to like 3500, then basically just slip the clutch, and then gave her only a little more than 1/2 throttle all the way through 1st. Full throttle in first will make your tires spin. Then i couldn't floor it in 2nd niether, maybe about 3/4 throttle. And after that just shift it and floor it. You'll prolly be able to floor it in 2nd because you're stock.

I have a 2003 Eclipse GTS, bout 220 hp at the crank right now.
I have an ACT 2400, and I launch at about 1500, give it half throttle till about 4000, then jump on it. I also have Z rated tires, and variable valve timing.
...and I know no one cares either...
maybe it'll help :razz2:

Launching A Fwd, Any tips?
|
give up j/k
Rev up to around 3000 and feather the clutch giving about 3/4 throttle until you hit around 4500 rpms. Then hit the gas like you have a stick up your ass. (i made a rhyme)

There is no such thing as launching a FWD. It is more like pussying a FWD. A stock 2g turbo can spin the hell out of the tires through 2nd gear not even trying. You are best off comming out of the hole like normal driving reaching ~50% throttle in 1st. In second, get on it ~75% throttle until you are about to shift when you can start to give it hell. Just practice. If you start to spin them, you are being too aggressive. If you aren't spinning them or wheelhoping, give it more gas.
Drag radials, slicks, LSD, motor mounts, and suspension will help you with traction problems. Most FWD owners keep it to the highway. Very few run fast 1/4 times.

I have a T28....and is there wheel spin like hell. Basically, I rev to about 3500, and slip the clutch. But I only give it like 50% throttle.Throw to second, give it like 75%. Once i'm outta the low rpms in second, I'll stomp the fucker WOT. Thats worked very good for me so far.
But as it's been noted....you dont launch a FWD. Not if you wanna win or have a good time at least. You do have to just pussy it. And stomp it once you get out of the wheelspin margin. But every car is different, depending on mods, tires, possibly even weight.

I have a solid front mount( the one in the center) basically I took a plate of steel and welded it solid. This reduced wheel-hop and then I put in a half-shaft from an AWD (the left front CV shaft) to help with torque steer , I still have an open Diff, with an Diff pin welded in, but I still would not go back to the stock set up. most of the time if I drop the clutch bouth tires will lay rubber (sumtimes), but the inside tire will still spin in turns. :3gears: Just my two cents
