Lancer Non-evo

So this may be a dumb question, but my wife needs a car, she has been very unhappy with her tC. so we went to Brookdale Mitsubishi and talked to Ryan Peterson. (who was very nice, new though I think) and he showed us Mazda 6's which we kinda liked, but we didn't buy anything then today I went in and talked with Eric Palmer who recommended to us that we think about a Lancer GTS (the one with the nav, and about every option except leather and powered seats.) which I really liked.
so my question is are the new 2008 Lancer Non-Evo's a decent vehicle, reliable, solid. or should I stick with Toyota, or Mazda or a recommendation for a nice family daily driver for my wife?

thanks
Cole

I like the new Lancers, I say go for it. Mitsubishi is putting a nice warranty on them so you really don't need to worry much about reliability.

I haven't driven one of the new ones, but my wife had a 2002 lancer for 4 years and it was a GREAT car for her. She drove it from 10k miles to 97k miles, and all it needed was tires(at 80k miles), a set of front brake pads(at 65k miles), an air filter (at 25k, K&N so never changed it after that), and regular oil changes. Oh yea, and a set of spark plugs here and there to.

The car was so maintenance-free it was ridiculous. Its easy to see why the Evos are so reliable compared to DSMs, based on this platform it is a dream come true

If you want a nice, reliable car, consider Toyota/Lexus and Honda/Acura. These cars mostly only require maintenance, and will hardly ever require major service in the cars life, if properly maintaned.

But she had a TC, which is basically a Toyota.

I think the new lancers seem nice. Haven't done enough research on them but test drove one. It felt pretty solid.

I say go for the new lancer. They seem to be doing great so far. I have been watching the Evo X closely and some people on there already have a GTS. They have been very happy with them.

yeah this Toyota that I owned was a lot of problems. We liked the car, but we had to warranty the A/C condenser, the radio, the tire (we had to warranty the tires) and I have had a really rough time time with the Toyota dealer I was having do all the work so no Toyota for me

Re: Lancer Non-evo

my room mate put nos on his xb and blew the motor, then took off the nos, took it to the dealer, and played dumb and got a new engine out. I can't stop laughing because apparently the line that sealed the deal for him was,
"this shouldn't have happened, are you SURE you didn't modify the car at all?"
"I put 91 in it, could that have done anything?"

after that they knew he couldn't have done anything, even though he really did.
