My thoughts.
On most nice weekends my car friends and I drive our cars down to University Ave. I have been doing this since I turned 16, about 6 years ago. Typically we go check out Porky's and see the same old mustangs that are there everynight, and rarely a real gem will find its way into the run of the mill modern camaros or stangs. Since we are ricers with slow cars, we then go to the normal rice spots to see stock automatic Saturns and Weld-on-$20-Shiney-muffler-89-civics-loaded-with-4-fat-guys compete in a contest of ball swinging. And ask a worthwhile car to compete, and the typical and expected, "its not running right, its not tuned, its broken, im scared of consequences, not-tonight" comes out. And who would have guessed, some local law enforcement enjoying their night rains on the parade of the rice...er, racers... And the laughable stampeed that follows only to be in a localized traffic jam worse than rush hour. At the next gathering spot, witness many poorly modified (or should be say slaughtered) grocery getters clog a well lit business. Observing groups of people who know each other, who do not interact with any other groups... Makes me wonder? If everyone is just coming here to stand around and BS, can't they do that at home? Wash, Rinse, Repeat. Before you know it, the sun is stirring and almost awake. Can you say waste of time? Why do half these people even do this? Because they are adolescent, and the only thing they can say about themselves is that they are champion ball swingers on the street, although they actually never do anything to claim, prove, or defend their self proclaimed titles?
In the end, this so called "street racing" is worthless. And the vast majority of people that participate should just drive their cars off a cliff, or at least give them to a needy grandmother who needs transportation to her local Cub Foods.

Re: My thoughts.
That's why I don't go there every weekend. I'll go to uni if I don't have anything else going on that night. It's a fun way to see some cool (and some not so cool) cars. There are a number of cars there that look and run a lot better and faster than my car, which is why I enjoy going. Sure, there are your ball swingers and people that don't know anything, but they are somewhat easy to ignore. Just go, look at pretty cars, and then go home and sleep good.

Re: My thoughts.
I've been to UNI about 4 or 5 times this year. And maybe 6-7 last year. 10 or so the year before that. Years before that, every weekend. It has gone down hill. I consider it a waist of gas now. At least one of the times I went to uni this year was to burn off a bit of gas before I went AutoXing.

Re: My thoughts.
^i like the last sentence there about using up gas.
I been down there a few times, but the scene is dead i hang out at porkys, i don't really feel like getting shot or stabbed or getting jumped by a family of whatever.
Also apart from set groups like the euro stuff, evo/suby stuff, everything else is just ghetto junk and i mean ghetto.
Where half of these kids came from is beyond me, but i know this they have night school for a reason and its not for those fuckers to skip out on it.
Either way since i bought my place and have been a lot more active rather than sitting on the couch all the time, i don't really care/have time to go down there, but i can say that when my car is running good and we come up with nothing better to do, we head down there.
Plus beating up on some 400whp cars is always fun with a full weight 16g car.

What cars are these??? When I had my dsm there wasn't anyone willing to race or I didn't car to race them. Not that I could find a 400whp car anyhow.
I guess most of the racing down there is only a block long and from a dig. All it takes is a good launch and it is over.

Re: My thoughts.
This was just a big rant about have stupid the car stuff is down there. And I didn't post this on MNSC because they are nancy's.
I am a car enthusiast. I like cars in general, and on the weekends thats really the only car thing going on. It's just dumb. But I still go b/c there isn't anything else better to do!

Re: My thoughts.
I really don't miss Porky's and red rock week in and out. There was a time when the groups were more selective, the activities were more selective, and the idiots stayed at home. Now it seems that everyone wants to go "street racing" which is why I am even more of an advocate of legal racing in all forms.
I think I've been down there one or two times this year, maybe 2-3 last year, and maybe 3-4 the year before.

Re: My thoughts.
Meh, street racing has gone downhill around here. The same faster cars are still around and unless people keep changing up cars or setups, it'll get real boring real fast. Otherwise, Uni is just a social event anyways.... meh. There are better things goin on on a Friday/Saturday nights now for me.

Re: My thoughts.
I went down there on Friday night last weekend just cuz I was bored, and didn't really see much of anything that interested me. I saw a bunch of ricers in Foodsmart so I didn't even slow down as I went past, then as I went by Wendy's on Industrial Blvd later on the cops were kicking everyone else out, so I just went home.

Re: My thoughts.
We could always blow off the night runs and go for the best BBQ in the 'cities.
Big Daddys BBQ at University and Lexington. Open Saturday mornings only, they cook and sell until they are out of food, then that's it.

Re: My thoughts.
Actually it'd be a lot of fun to hang out with other DSMers down there, but I hardly see any.
