Computer Problems

My computer will not boot up when I power it on, but all of the lights on my case turn on. The disc drive lights flash on and off every second or so and actually lose power when the lights turn off becasue if I try to open them they do but the drawer stops whenever the light is off. So my question is, what could the problem be? I'm thinking the power supply is the culprit but I'm not very sure. Thanks
Anthony

Re: Computer Problems

open it up make sure the CPU heatsink is plugged in and attached. We had a recent computer problem at my work and that turned out to be the problem.

Re: Computer Problems

If it's an ATX style motherboard, you can try this diagnostic on the power supply

Re: Computer Problems

Thanks a lot for that website, I'll check all of these things once I get off work. The CPU is liquid cooled so that rules out the CPU fan. Thanks for all of your help.

Re: Computer Problems

You can unplug your CDROM drives ... if you can get into the BIOS set the boot first option for your main HDD. Then uplug the drives. If it comes up with out the problem then its them. If it still does it. Plug them in one at a time...even your HD do the same. But like that site tells ya. Its a trial and error. Your PSU should be fine if it turns the whole thing on. Granted you could have a bad plug on it.
