CAS swap

We think my buddies CAS is bad ( 1990 laser FWD turbo) and I have like 5 91+ CAS' laying around. I looked for the past hour on Vfaq.com and cannot find anything other than 1g-2g CAS swap. Has anyone done this? I don't wanna dig into and realize something is wrong or it won't work.

Any help would be appreciated!

Re: CAS swap

The 92 has 2 black wires and the 90 has a yellow and a black. I could have that backwards but either way the wires are not exactly the same and I'd hate to screw something up from guessing! :P

Has anyone ever done this?!

Re: CAS swap

I'm only speculating when I say this, but I can't imagine that the design is different. Maybe the wiring harnesses are different? I've never paid attention to 1g's. Take the covers off the two and compare the inards. If they're the same, I'd say that you're safe.

Re: CAS swap

1990 CAS /// 1991-1994 CAS

Small black/// Yellow
Big black/// Black
red/// RED
white/// WHITE

Small black-yellow: is your "crank trigger"
red-red: is your power
white-white: is your "CAM trigger"
big black-black: is your ground.

The cas sensors change in "type".
1989-1990 is a Optical type with a long harness
1991-1992 is a Optical type w/o the harness
1992-1994 is a Hall effect type, with a black lid (versus green for the other 2 generations).
