Re: help

vfaq is all you will need..

If you can't follow that, which will be your best guide.. there are going to be issues.

You have a car that was modified before or not?

If it was, there will be issues, you take a car that was designed for 180whp, and push out 300+ and expect it to work forever without doing any maintenance.. The car will only treat you as you treat it.. anyways back to the question at hand..

If you can't follow those instructions, and want to modify the car you are better off getting rid of it, because all thats waiting for you down the road is tougher stuff...

BUT if you sit down, warm up the chair... and do it yourself, you will learn more and have better experience with your car now and in the future.. Not all the time will you have an option of having someone supervising you.

I would come and help but you are in Eagan, i'm up in Blaine...

Re: help

I can see why he can not follow vfaq. Installing a Safc is a tough job at hand. Maybe he does not know what wire goes were. But eh...I think Vfaq does a great job on telling you how to do it. But if you want to spend cash on it. Call up one of the local shops on this site. Either way you going to get it done. And good luck doing it.

Some people are just more mechanically incline than others. If everyone could work on cars than shops like LSE would not be around.

Re: help

Exactly. Whenever I do something new for the first time I usually try to find a buddy that has some knowledge about it first. I do a ton of reading as well, but I think you can never be to safe and I wouldn't wanna risk doing something stupid or wrong just because I'm a noob at something. For instance, I've never installed an safc, nor have I looked at vfaq for it. What I would do is read over Vfaq and then read up the forums a little. Do a search on vfaq and see what you find. Then when I'm reading to install it I would call up my buddy and ask if he'd lend a hand and help me out where I need it. He knows I'd do the same for him. Imop it's a great idea to have a buddy that knows his dsms as well. I do like the fact that you are looking to install your safc yourself, that shows you wanna actually learn a little. I'm sure you must know a decent amount about dsms if you are planning on tuning it. Shit I bet there are people out there that think you can throw on a built head, injectors, fp, new turbo, fmic, and an exhaust and then go drive your car around w/o a tune. Just sayin, I like the fact that you are trying. Keep it up! Just remember don't go cheap and build it up right if you are planning on it.

Re: help

Thanks Matt for taking care of that. He did not help out a member in anyway. But yes like said read the forum or Vfaq.... The Safc was installed on many many DSMs. All I could say remember what wire is what on the plug.... And if you don't really understand it all there is a wiring harnes somewere to buy. But eh...why spend money....

Re: help

The best way to learn anything is to have someone there who knows what they are doing to guide you along. I would just disregard Jakey. The way I have learned the things I know is by having someone help me do things, but make me actually sit in there and do it while they talk me thru it. That way next time you are more likely to be like "Oh yah I remember this!"

Is the SAFC all you have to do?
I'd love to come try to help you out with it, but I've never done one so I wouldn't be a huge help.

Re: help

.. Not to be bitchy or anything, so please SERIOUSLY don't take it that way, but Taylor and I went to school together and have been good friends for awhile. I wouldn't really offer to help work on someone's car that I didn't know unless I was 100% positive I knew what I was doing.

Re: help

When you unplug the plugs. Stare at them with the latch facing up. So the pins read from right to left. I used the vfaq help on connecting the SAFC to a 1g ECU here is the 1g GVR4 SAFC install. I know it says GVR4.... But that car also has the same ECU as a 1g. Also I know they should of said pinout numbers. But by reading that it seems pretty straight foward for me. But I hope the photo helps you out. Sorry for my bad MSPaint skills. I am more use to Photoshop.... I can not find my CD to install it. So eh...good luck with this. I would love to help you but it take me 14 hours to drive to help you. Oh ya btw make SURE you connect the brown AFC wire as close to that plug as you can. And then plug the AFC black wire alittle bit behind the brown wire. And the AFC blue wire is optional. As stated in the faq....

Re: help

I didnt think the S-AFC install was easy either. I am big, and sticking my big gloves in there to do some soldering wasnt exactly my idea of "easy." Best of luck man.
