Arp nuts + crower springs = bitch
I'm having a helluva time getting the arp nuts onth their studs, as the corner ones interfer with the crower springs.
I tried lifting the head and slowly lowering it down while tightening the nuts, but to no avail.
Anyone else had this experience, and if so how did you remedy it?

Re: Arp nuts + crower springs = bitch
I had a problem with them too... I had no choice but to "help" the washer down with a socket and hammer. Looked like it bent the edge of the seat a little, but nothing else. Not the way I like to do things, but I saw no other way.

Re: Arp nuts + crower springs = bitch
The washers i can get down there no problem, its the nuts that are rubbing the springs.

Re: Arp nuts + crower springs = bitch
Hmm, I can't remember... I don't remember the spring getting caught under the nut, but they did touch as I wound it down and just squeezed by.

Re: Arp nuts + crower springs = bitch
Are you sure you're using ARP nuts? I think they were 14mm 12-points. They're much smaller in diameter than the washers and even with the socket on them, is not as wide as the nut seat, or the washer. I didn't have any issues with mine and the crowers.

Re: Arp nuts + crower springs = bitch
Yes, 14mm 12pts and they are indeed smaller than the washers.
Not all of the holes are giving me trouble, just the corner ones.
It just occurred to me that this could be an issue unique to me since i'm using a 2g head with the holes drilled out to fit 1g arp studs. I'm sure the 2g arp stuff would fit, but its too late for that now!
I need to figure this out!

You're an engineer, just redesign everything.

Re: Arp nuts + crower springs = bitch
You're a lot closer to an engineer than i am at this point!
Its been suggested i just shave down the nuts giving me trouble (about 1mm).
Its not the prettiest or even the best solution, but considering its just a static fastener it will probably work.

Wierd. I had absolutely no problems with mine. I had to put the washers on first, but I have no problem with the nuts.

Re: Arp nuts + crower springs = bitch
Double nut two of them on a bolt and spin it down on a grinder until the base is even with the nut flats. I had to do it. It works fine.

Re: Arp nuts + crower springs = bitch
I had to have a friend at work lift my head up, while I slipped the nut over the stud on my car, when I re-did the HG, but then again, I only have a 1g head.

Re: Arp nuts + crower springs = bitch
I've had to grind down the little flare on the base of the arp nut when doing studs in exactly your scenerio. As well as all the other tips such as: holding the head and and helping the washers by at the same time.

Re: Arp nuts + crower springs = bitch
I also have issue with mine and crower springs. I think the springs are the problem. Put the socket on them and give them a tap, they will pop over the spring coils.

Re: Arp nuts + crower springs = bitch
If the washer fits I do not see how the nut could not thread down, but if you need to shave the nut I would clean up the edge on the bottom so there is no added friction between the nut and washer.

Re: Arp nuts + crower springs = bitch
You can place the washer in to the head before you put the head on so its sitting there, it'll usually stick b/c of the moly lube. But the nut is not as easy since you have to put it on after the head is on the car and the studs are through the holes.
Does any company offer a tapered progressive valve spring? i believe that would cure this particular problem for anyone who wants to do this same setup in the future.
