Nitrogen?
Where could a person like myself find nitrogen to fill up my tires, instead of air? I do not wish to purchase a bottle of it to store in my garage, but just to fill the tires with. It lasts longer, doesn't leak out, due to larger molecules, and stores better. Just curious.

Re: Nitrogen?
I don't know why you want to bother. The reason it's used in racecars is because of its inert properties, it will not expand/contract as much as normal air when heated/cooled.

Look for a welding/gas supply company.

Besides that, good luck finding someone that has it with an air chuck on it.

Re: Nitrogen?
I was wondering this more-so for like hossier qtp, just set it at 13 psi or so. But, I'm a way's off for it. I was actually wondering if it expands under heat like usual. Thanks guys.

nitrogen is a very stable gas and dosn't change much under different temps. That is why it is used in shocks. I have read that some tire places are starting to offer it, although I havn't heard of any in particulre.
turbotralon1g; any idea how much it cost to have your tires filled with it at TP?

Re: Nitrogen?
A guy came into work today and was talking about filling his tires with nitrogen. He said it was something like $4 per tire to do it. That seems awful steep to me? I am not sure where it was either, didnt bother to ask.

Re: Nitrogen?
I am pretty sure costco does it, or at least they used to. Dunno if you gotta pay extra if you didn't buy tires from them or not, I just remember seeing a sign about it there a year or so ago, might be worth a phone call.

Re: Nitrogen?
I think the sams club uses nitrogen to fill all there tires. Thats what I heard from heresay at least.
And nitrogen really isn't needed in a street car. Like others have said, it is mainly for road racing, as tire pressures before running and after lapping can differ like 15psi aka a shitton.
Nitrogen is still going to leak out of almost any hole/bead leak in a tire, it will just take slightly longer. If you have a leak, just have it repaired or repair it yourself. If you use bead sealer on both beads and bead seal the valvestem, the odds are tire pressure will stay about the same.
Oh, and make sure to fill up with winter air, it lasts longer than summer air.

Re: Nitrogen?
Anyway, what makes you think pure nitrogen is going to leak out of tires any slower than regular air? Our atmosphere is 78% nitrogen.

If it is better and safer I would do it, but I also have $900 (total not each) rubber on all fours. Not including rims.

Safer, not any more or less safe than regular air. Better, only if you're on a track and a couple PSI difference can throw off your setup.

Re: Nitrogen?
Exactly.
The only place nitrogen has an avantage in tires, is on a racetrack. (Not drag strip)
Although I am sure that a few companies are pretty happy to be selling nitrogen filling machines like a motherfucker.
