Pulling Out...

93' TSI AWD

Wondering if anyone has extensive pictures on pulling the tranny, I am under the impression that you are able to drop it from under the car and pull it out the passenger side, is this true? I sure hope so 'cause I basically have everything disconnected besides the tranny-chassis mounts and the tranny-motor mounts, also I still have the DS connected but I was hoping for as much input/info as possible because I've never done this kind of a swap nor has anyone I know.

Wondering what to do... Support the motor with a jack and block from oil pan? Pull it towards the passenger side..What else do i need to know,

I've read the VFAQ but was wondering if anyone else has pictures/info.

Sorry if it's a repost, I looked but didnt find anything. Delete it if it bothers you.

Re: Pulling Out...

Yep, you drop it out the bottom on the passenger side. You don't need to remove any motor mounts except the tranny mount, I always remove the entire thing, it's easier. Plus you need to undo the two bolts that hold the carrier bearing on the driver's side axle, they attach to the block via the AC bracket. That will free up the axle enough to move around when you put the tranny back on as well. Drop the transfer case and let the driveshaft hang down or tie it up to the p/s rack. Don't forget about the little 12mm head bolt behind the xfer case, it's one of the tranny bolts. Pull the tranny out about six inches while tilting it slightly downward, it's a tight fit but it will clear.

Re: Pulling Out...

taking it out is a lot easier than re-installing it. If you have a tranny jack or something, that would make life easier if you had a lift. It's pretty heavy to muscle back in but it will go in

You have money for a shep rebuild but no money for a jack? Hmm.. That's pretty interesting. You can get a POS floor jack for like 30 dollars at northern hydraulics lol. That's one tool you should always have. Hell I used to drag one around in my DSM daily...

Re: Pulling Out...

Does anyone happen to have any suggestions on a AWD 5spd Trans rebuild? I've been lookin' at a Shep rebuild but the TurboTrix has also caught my interest. Anyone have experience with either or some suggestions? Anything would help.

I've been looking into taking out a Car Improvement Loan so I can get my TSi driving again cause my current DD is turning into a lemon.
