Racing Jacket Regulation
I was reading on the MN sport compact sight about jacket requirment for non OEM turbo charge cars at the track. Can anybody shed some light on this subject. Could this mean that if I have a upgraded turbo on my DSM I will need a jacket to race.

Re: Racing Jacket Regulation
An upgrade would probably require the use of a jacket but I doubt they will say anything unless you are running something really big. I would be willing to bet that any 16g, 20g, etc.. will be overlooked and you wouldnt get hassled.
I may be wrong though, just my thoughts.

Re: Racing Jacket Regulation
Wrong. A fireproof jacket is required for 10-11.99 cars, though that might have changed to faster than 11.5 when the cage rule changed a year or two ago. The techs at the track don't know a 12a from a T88.

I borrowed this from another board

NHRA RULE CHANGES FOR 2006
Protective Clothing Changes
The Protective Clothing of the E.T. section of the NHRA Rulebook states which jacket and/or pants are needed for 10.00 and slower and 9.99 and quicker.
Supercharged, turbocharged, or nitous-equiped cars, with or without a full OEM or .024-inch steel firewall. Please review the Protective Clothing sections, Section 1A – Superpro, Pro, Sportsman and Section 1B – Advanced E.T. of the 2006 NHRA Rulebook.
Section 1-A, located on page 24 of the 2006 NHRA Rulebook read as follows:
10.00 (*6.40 1/8 mile) and slower; all E.T. non-OEM supercharged, non-OEM turbocharged, or nitrous-equipped cars with an OEM or .024-inch steel firewall: Jacket meeting SFI Spec 3.2A/1 mandatory
10.00 (*6.40 1/8 mile) and slower; all E.T. supercharged, turbocharged, or nitrous-equipped cars without a full OEM or .024-inch steel firewall: Jacket meeting SFI Spec 3.2A/5 and gloves meeting SFI Spec 3.3/1 mandatory.
10.00 (*6.40 1/8 mile) to 11.49 (*7.35 1/8 mile): Jacket meeting SFI Spec 3.2A/1 mandatory.
The same Spec for Advanced E.T. is located in Section 1B, located on page #27 of the 2006 NHRA Rulebook.
What’s Needed At 135 mph?
For 2006, the Rulebook clarifies that any vehicle that runs faster than 135 mph must meet minimum requirements for 9.99 –seconds. In year’s past, this 9.99 and/or 135 mph break was not clearly defined in the e.t. section of the rulebook, leading to some confusion.
The minimum requirements for any vehicle that runs 9.99 or runs faster than 135 mph includes an NHRA chassis certification, NHRA competition license, and upgraded safety equipment (neck collar, jacket and pants, and gloves).
Further details about the 9.99 requirements may be found in Section 1A – Super Pro, Pro, Sportsman section of the 2006 NHRA Rulebook, beginning on page #18.
Computers
During NHRA competition, no portable computer (e.g., laptop, PDA, Palm Pilot, programmer, ect.) may be used or located in a vehicle at any point beyond the staging area ready line. All functions or values must be pre-set prior to this point. This includes Grudge Race and Time Trial runs.

To be fair, there is hardly any difference between the 12a and the T88GK

NHRA RULE CHANGES FOR 2006
Section 1-A, located on page 24 of the 2006 NHRA Rulebook read as follows:

-Our cars are OEM turbocharged. That doesn't mean an aftermarket turbo, it means converting a non-turbo car to turbo. If you're spraying and running slower than an 11.49, you should chuck the bottle in the woods and go home.
-We don't modify our firewalls for any reason, so this doesn't apply.
10.00 (*6.40 1/8 mile) to 11.49 (*7.35 1/8 mile): Jacket meeting SFI Spec 3.2A/1 mandatory.
-Here's what I was talking about.
The same Spec for Advanced E.T. is located in Section 1B, located on page #27 of the 2006 NHRA Rulebook.

-This is new, and sucks. A lot of DSM's are running 135mph these days, but aren't that close to 9.99. Looks like a lot of people will be hitting the brakes just before the traps at Slippery Falls.I doubt if the Iowa tracks would give a shit.

-This is new too, although I doubt it will be adhered to at any track around here.

Re: Racing Jacket Regulation
Better get the full suit and the collar. We'll see how excited they get out at RF if any of us can get a clean enough pass to run 135mph.

Re: Racing Jacket Regulation
As a lane sponser this year, I will tell people that they are enforcing.
And I will have a suit and collar.

Re: Racing Jacket Regulation
Hense why I spend all last year prepping my self. (also new this year. You must have a 19lb+ radiator Cap, an Engine Diaper, and a sealed overflow canister for your coolant)
At moroso - if your un faster then 11.99 and your car isn't 100% stock then you must have all of that, plus.
Jacket, 6pnt cage, at least 5pnt harness's.
I hope at some point on a good tune on Race Gas and with some good set of tires I'll be able to break the 130mph mark on my set up.

Re: Racing Jacket Regulation
So as long as we're not running under 11.5, then we're set?

Re: Racing Jacket Regulation
Thanks for clearing things up Jet. I checked the Suck Falls rule and they don't mention anything about jackets yet.
