Transmission Issues
My tranny is flaring, slipping, and jostling the entire contents of my skull every time it shifts from 2nd to 3rd.
A fluid flush at this point will not do anything. It is shot. Its to the point where I need some major work done.
I'm wondering if someone could recommend a place that I could call asking about a rebuild to see if its cheaper than a used tranny.
Thx.

Have you done business with them and had good luck? My dad dealt with them back in the 90's and it was a nightmare.

Re: Transmission Issues
I probably deal with an Aamco somewhere in the U.S about 3 times a week. For fleet cars they are our #1 choice behind dealers for trans work (well its a toss-up, depends upon the area).
I would maybe ask around Goodyear Pete, see if you guys have any accounts with anyone locally?

Re: Transmission Issues
I say rebuild it. You see to like the car, it still looks to be in nice shape, and you've put a lot of work into it.

yessir
It could be something as simple as shot solenoids or a valve body issue, but you never know until you take it out, it's actually pretty damn hard to diagnose unless you remove it. Sure, there are things you can do to almost 100% diagnose it with it still in the car, but you just never know.
Try driving it with manual gears. If it goes into each gear without and fuss and holds, then you probably need a new band or a clutch pack, which would point to a rebuild. It sucks you can't just replace a band or a clutch pack, but the old fluid would destroy new parts.
How do you drive it? If It's been driven hard I'd say it needs an overhaul at 144k. Usually an overhaul kit is under $400-$500, not bad there. Now you gotta find someone to do it that has the tools.
