So I have a 1991 GVR4 and I am replacing the left front CV shaft.
Everything went fine until it was time to remove the cv shaft/intermediate shaft. I knew they came out as a pair, so after removing the intermediate mount on the block, I tried to pull the whole assembly out. The CV shaft joint closest to the transfer case separated when I did that. I figured no big deal, as I was replacing it anyways. Well, I spent the next hour trying to get the remaining part of the coupler out of the intermediate shaft to no avail. The write up I read said that you grab the intermediate shaft and put the part that goes to the hub toward the ground and hit the area where they join with a hammer. I think the weight of the cv shaft helps separate them. I no longer have this "helper weight" to get them to separate. I tried placing the coupler resting on top of the vice and tapping the intermediate shaft downward as well.
Nothing has worked so far and I don't really know what to do. Any ideas?
