bogging - more more more!

91 talon TSI awd. 6/3
3 inch SS o2 elim exhaust
2g maf
255 FP / regulator
MBC set to 11 psi
Eprom ecu

The car had a 16g and FMIC along with all supporting mods needed a few months back. I've been slowly converting to stock. However, the ecu is supposed to be socketed / chipped for 550's or something. The car is back to 450's. I'm getting some crazy bogging in the upper RPMS. I have not yet done a boost test, but it's possible. I'm just wondering if it thinks I'm running 550's and causing an issue?

I'm trying to trade my eprom for a regular ecu + cash since I no longer need it ( back to stock mostly)

Ah, if the ECU is programmed for 550's and there's 450's in it, then the car will be running lean, like 20% lean...I'd think about putting the 550's back in or getting a regular ecu back in there before you do too much boosting.

Re: bogging - more more more!

Turn the fuel pressure up 8-10psi and see how it drives. Don't keep running it on the lean side or you will melt a piston crown or valve.

Re: bogging - more more more!

The motor just got re-done so I can't really hammer on it much anyways. I noticed this while getting off 169 around some twisties on the way home. 14b spools a little sooner than the 16g did :P

My buddy did tamber with the FPR awhile back and it was doing this similar shit even with the Big16G on it. I don't have a fuel pressure gauge or I woulda tampered with it again Anyway to safely do this ? I really have no idea what the "stock" settings should be..

Re: bogging - more more more!

Do you have a logger? Check to see what your O2 is saying as it's probably lean as hell. I wouldn't drive like that.

I would guess you're getting knock from running so lean, which would result in bogging from timing being pulled.

I'd trade for an eprom, but am pretty much cashless.

Re: bogging - more more more!

I'm thinking about doing it "cheap" as Eproms cost about 250.

I was thinking 150 + non eprom. I dont wanna stay out of the boost!!! AHH.

I think it's also the FPR is adjusted out of wack =/ I do not have a logger! I don't attempt to make these things go fast, i just like them stock :P I'm poor otherwise I'd buy a logger and an afc ;/

stock o2 isn't really going to tell me much I don't think. I guess if it's running real lean it would tell me so but I've heard not to trust them :P

Re: bogging - more more more!

Oh yea one more thing. The car is venting to atmosphere at the moment.. so it doesn't idle right because of that ( sometimes surge, sometimes it dies) but beyond that, could fuel pressure / ECU reading 550's rather than the actual 450's play a part in this?

id look into putting those 550's back in while you wait to get the ecu.

I sold them EZ. I couldn't find a non eprom so I just had LSE re-chip it for 450's. Then I reconnected the vented BOV, zip tied to boost gauge on and now I seem to be good to go!

Soon enough something else will break I promise :P

Now I have to figure out what I'm going to do with my 2g intake =/ It's running me lean since I have no extra fuel control! ahh

Re: bogging - more more more!

Why was it chipped for 550's if you're already running a 2G MAF?

Re: bogging - more more more!

Honestly, I have no idea what was done to the ECU. Everything was done before me or my buddy owned it ( i bought it, sold to my friend, bought it back). I was told what was done to the car and some of it actually was, some of it wasn't. All I know is that I'm told I'm running too lean since I have no fuel control and I'm running a 2g maf. Everything is running great at the moment. I have zero complaints about how this car runs at this time. I do think it uses more fuel than it should though I guess.
