My first DSM
I picked up my first DSM on Christmas eve 2015. It only has 117k on it, it was a two owner car and had service records. Merry Christmas to me I guess.

Re: My first DSM
The clutch slipped under load in 3rd gear or higher. I checked all the basics, fluid, cmc adjustment and bled the system. Nothing changed so lets pull the trans. The previous owner had a clutch put in 7000 miles prior to my purchase. It appears that the flywheel was machined but the machinist did not consider step height, milling the friction surface and not milling the pressure plate mounting surface. Everything has signs of heat damage and uneven wear. The picture doesn't do the damage justice and I seem to have lost pics of the clutch disc and flywheel. Big thanks to Wade for helping pull the tranny.

Re: My first DSM
RUST!! Sometimes I hate MN. Typical 2G strut tower rust. I don't want that to spread so I cut it all out, welded in patch panels and got some PPG color match paint in a rattle can at Welle Auto. I am by no means a welder, fabricator or a body guy but I really like to do things myself if possible.

Re: My first DSM
Craigslist find. Got me some Evo8 Wheels for $150. One ended up being non-repairable so I ordered another single wheel on Ebay for.....$150, dammit. Had all Wheels inspected at Alloy Wheel Repair Specialists in Mounds View. All are good so now I feel OK refinishing them.

Thanks! I'm exited for the build. I was shocked to find one locally that didn't even have any free mods done to it.

I hope this turbo lives up to the hype, a lot of people online say good things about it. I guess we'll find out.

My plan as of right now is gas as it's available everywhere. The two bp's near me turned into friggin sinclairs... But my plan was also to leave it stock this year and now the entire front end is off, motor pulled and I bought a turbo,so I wouldn't rule out e85 just yet.

Thanks Mark. Saturday was a good time,we'll have to get together again, I wouldn't mind picking your brain about my wire harness project.

Re: My first DSM
This Sunday was so nice I decided to push the car out and blast the bay and wheel wells. (and knock off a winters worth of welding, grinding and general garage dust from the paint) Getting ready for some more engine bay cleanup and POR15
I also tried out the sandblaster on one of the evo wheels.

Nice looking car! I'm in Cambridge and my 1g is stored in Isanti, if you ever need a hand with anything or just wanna drink beer and talk dsm shit hit me up!
Also, Minnoco on the east side of 65 has e85, and the Westrom's corner BP on 65 in Cambridge just re-opened.

Thanks a lot! That's very useful information. I may hit you up sometime, most of my friends act like I moved to Canada, they never want to come up here.

Re: My first DSM
Yup, been up here for 30 years now. You'd think a 45 minute drive was equivalent to a trek across the west in a covered wagon like Oregon trail. Better bring an extra oxen and some dysentery medication, we're goin all the way to Isanti!

Re: My first DSM
Rerouted the wiper motor wiring behind the passenger fender and down into the chassis harness into the cab. Shortened harness on the wiper motor side. Now it doesn't come out of the top of the firewall. My wiring is almost done and the wilwood combination proportioning valve should be here soon so I can begin the brake work.

Re: My first DSM
Got a new toy in the mail. I need to decide if I'm going to paint the engine bay before I mount it and run brake lines though.

Re: My first DSM
I got the engine bay painted this weekend. Lighting sucks in the garage, Maybe i'll push it out when there is some sun and take a pic. Time to start putting stuff back together.
