carnage pics
I know I made a thread a while ago about how my 2.5rs blew up on my way to Devil's lake, but I honestly can't find it for the life of me. Anyways, I finally took the heads off the block and this is what I found.
ouch

Re: carnage pics
The sad thing is, I still don't know for sure why it happened. I'm pretty sure that when the guy who sold me the car (a mechanic) replaced the head gaskets and timing belt, he never got the heads machined which caused coolant to seep in with the oil and cause the motor to lock up. What I don't really understand is why it was mainly just the one cylinder that blew up.

Re: carnage pics
That kind of damage has nothing to do with coolant in your oil from any kind of head gasket leak.

Re: carnage pics
Just slap some new valvetrain in let her buck!
That is some nasty damage. What are you planning to do with that thing anyway?

Re: carnage pics
Detonation. Running lean under boost or too advanced of timing. You should have heard some massive pinging with damage like that.

Re: carnage pics
No boost, this is from a 2.5RS! (right?)
I don't think you ever started a thread, you just posted in the shoutbox. People seem to forget that those shouts don't get read by the rest of the world like they can be on the regular forum, they die too quickly.

Re: carnage pics
Ya if thats a 2.5rs than it wouldn't have been boosted unless someone did a homemade setup like i was gonna do on my 98 Legacy. Shit i still have my 2.2 and turbo pistons laying around for that dam thing.

No boost, and the timing belt was done roughly 5000 miles or so before this happened. I didn't hear a thing when this happened. If I recall, we were listening to music, but I don't have any bumpin system in my rs. The car just suddenly studdered and died as soon as I put it into neutral.

Hmm, then are you sure the timing marks were lined up properly?

Re: carnage pics
I've seen a few of Subbie's where one of the cam gear dowel pins broke (belt/gear spins but cam doesn't)
You know a little something about that old man Hill [cough]04 DSM Shootout[/cough]
