whine noise coming from the head?

So I was driving my car a couple months ago with a new tranny I put in it. After driving a couple miles it started making this whine noise. It sounded like it was coming from the tranny . So I looked everything over and did find anything that could be making that noise. Drove it some more when it snowed and it still made the noise. Then the tranny started to act up. So I thought it was the tranny that I just installed. So I parked for the winter and pick up another tranny. I just got done putting it in tonight. Everything went smooth. I started it up and right when it fired up it that dam noise is still there. I know it not the tranny this time. it sounds like its coming from the head. So I took the valve cover off and found nothing. Iam going to pull the timing cover off and take look. It goes up and down when you rev the car up. But the car runs fine. Could the timing belt be rubbing on something? The head and timing belt were replaced before I bought the car. Oh and iam running just one belt for the alternator and water pump.

Could be one of the idler pulleys, or maybe the tensioner pulley for the timing belt.

Re: whine noise coming from the head?

I took the timing cover off cause it looked like it was rubbing. Aftere I took the timing cover off I but the crank pulley back on and it still made the noise. I don't think it can be the timing belt pulleys. Cause the head, timing belt and all the pulleys and tensioners were just replaced. I think I might just bring it in to a shop.

The tension on the T-belt could be a hair to tight. That will cause a whirring/whining noise.

Re: whine noise coming from the head?

If it was wouldn't of started making the noise right after it was installed. Not after a couple thousands miles? I did some searching. I think it might be the bs shafts. Iam not running a belt on it. I bought the car like that. I need to do the elim kit or put the belt back on.

It made the noise before putting the new tranny in. I know the flywheel bolts are tight.

Re: whine noise coming from the head?

I started the car today and I think I found where the noise is coming from. It sounds like its coming from the small gear next to the crank.
