Picked up a new car
I picked up a 1998 Subaru Impreza RS from a guy in Cottage Grove. He's actually a Subaru mechanic and the car is 1 of 150 of the specific color scheme ever made. All the suby guys went a little crazy when I told them I found this actually haha. It's nothin crazy special imo. Your basic 2.5L 4 banger. It moves alright, but it's nothin to really brag about. I pretty much bought the car because I wanted something reliable and fun.
Wellllll, it turns out this "reliable" car didn't even make it home last night when I bought it haha. I took a pit stop in a snowy icy parking lot with a friend while we waited for our buddy to show up. I slid around a little and did a couple harmless donuts. Nothin crazy or hard. Well the car studderd and then died. At first I thought it somehow cut fuel and that wa the problem. It was getting a spark and turning over just fine. The motor just wouldn't catch and go. So I parked it for the night and planned on dealing with it in the morning.
Well this morning I got it towed to a shop a mile away (Maple Grove Auto Service). The guy thought it was something with the timing belt. Thinkin it might have skipped a few teeth or somethin. Well they quoted me $1200 to fix the flippin timing belt! haha that's a joke. I talked it out with the guy I bought it from and he agreed to fix the car for free labor if I paid for the parts. I think this is a very fair deal. He was misinformed about when some maintenance was actually done unfortunately, but we've got it worked ot now. The car should be up and runnin by next wednesday.
Anyways, on to pics!

Back on the tow truck you go! haha. It's good thing that the seller worked everything out with you though. You'll have to get some better pics once you get it back.

Re: Picked up a new car
^haha yea.
idk if I'm a huge fan of the color, but there's a full dsm thread on one of the suby forums for previous dsm owners. All of em said their dsms were was faster than the subies will ever be, but they like the subies more. idk I'm just lookin for somethin I won't slip into modding for a while.
sti motor/tranny swap is a definite possibility in the future. Gotta wait till I'm outa school though for that one.

Re: Picked up a new car
I've always liked the way those cars look. Sucks that it crapped out right away, but it's good that the seller is willing to work it out for you.

Re: Picked up a new car
Those are fun little cars. The super aggressive tranny ratios make them scoot decently.

Re: Picked up a new car
I've always been a fan of the RS, nice find!
I've tuned a SVX swapped RS, very tight room with that 6 cylinder in that engine bay, better bet would be to swap in wrx bits and pieces.

Re: Picked up a new car
Cool car, if subaru would have only brought the wrx here during that generation and not the next generation, I might have looked more in that direction instead of DSM's. They have just gone downhill looks-wise imho since that car.
The color makes me want to vomit a little, but thats cool. Only in my mouth.
"Misinformed about maintenance records" hrm....seems a common thread for subarus. My friends bought a nice 1999 or 2000 outback and the clutch had been done 20k miles previous. Well, thats the only thing the guy could not find the record of, and guess what broke shortly after my friends bought it! The clutch. Still, it was the cleanest one in the cities for the price.

Re: Picked up a new car
not a bad pick up at all. A cousin of mine has a 4-door RS model and he put in the japan sti engine(version 4 sti engine...i believe..) and that beast is just an all-out beast in the inside and a great sleeper in the inside. great car, but i love the dsms more...much more easier to work on.

Re: Picked up a new car
I like the looks of the 2dr RS's but Boxer motors suck.
They should've left them in BMW motorcycles where they belong.

I like it. One of those is my my 'must have' list as well, so I'm slightly jealous.
