Did I Mention I Bought A Bike Last Month?
So I was planning on buying and R6, but my buddy bought an '05 CBR1000RR Repsol....
Of course I had to step it up with a brand new '08 R1 Raven.
I've put ~900 miles on it in the last four weeks and I love it. I'm not sure if it's as quick as the Z06, but it's really a blast to ride.

Nice. My friend had an '07 last year, but it was stolen. They're very nice bikes, but personally, I wouldn't own one.

Re: Did I Mention I Bought A Bike Last Month?
Yeah, your bike is faster than the Z06. Around here there isn't enough room to stretch a liter bikes legs very much. I wish now I would have got a 750 or a hooligan bike. My next bike will be something like the KTM Big Duke.

Re: Did I Mention I Bought A Bike Last Month?
Thanks guys!
I had been looking at buying an R6 forever. They're comfortable little bikes and the fuel mileage is great.
I'm really shocked at how this bike is highway geared, even though it's lacking so much bottom end. It's almost like turbo lag...almost. After 8,000rpm's it seems to come on pretty good, but below that it's pretty weak. First gear will go to over 100mph, no problem. The other day I saw 128 in second gear when I was racing the CBR1000RR. Of course the speedometers are off, but a liter bike with a 14,500rpm rev limiter is fun regardless.
A drag race from a dead stand with a great rider the R1 might be pretty close to the Z06 on the street, but from a roll the Z06 will wax that ass. The last 'Busa didn't believe it either until I took him out and schooled him. The acceleration just does not stop with that little 427 on the bottle. At the track most bikes just want to wheelie unless you lower and strap 'em. When I bought this bike I said I wasn't going to drag race it, but I'm already looking at buying a few goodies for it...I know it's a bad idea.
Topend the bikes tend to peter out somewhere around 180. Hell, I don't even shift the Z06 into 5th until 165 and it pulls HARD all the way there. After a couple seconds in 5th it's blowing past 180. 200 ain't shit.

Re: Did I Mention I Bought A Bike Last Month?
180 is fast enough on a bike. I've been close, and I'll never do it again. And the low rpm performance is why I love my bike so much From everything I've seen, my bike is faster to 100 than your's. But anything above that and you'll walk me all day long. It's fine with me though since I rarely get above 130. V twin torque FTW!

Re: Did I Mention I Bought A Bike Last Month?
I take it that 180 wasn't on your SV?
Swap your bike with someone that has a GSXR1k once, you will be amazed at the lower end. The main reason they gear the bikes so high is to keep the morons from hammering it in 1st gear and flipping over. The problem is that once you change the gearing, then you are rapping like crazy on the interstate. I wish 6th was more of an overdrive. Mine is stock now, but my sprockets are starting to get some wear, so I was thinking of gearing it down a bit. That means wheelies are easier though, which leads to trouble

Re: Did I Mention I Bought A Bike Last Month?
Jet, it was an indicated 175, and it was on my '06 GSXR 600. The fastest I've had the SV is an indicated 160. And I rode my buddy's R1, and I wasn't all that impressed with the low end compared to the SV.

Re: Did I Mention I Bought A Bike Last Month?
Last month at The Texas Mile there were some guys from here in Corpus with 'Busas with power adders running 190+. One guy with turbo/nitrous setup ran 220+. I have no desire to go that fast on a bike.
Playing around on the street with my buddy's 1000RR versus the R1 you can see the strong bottom end pull away when we're down in the revs. Once the RPM's come up my bone stock R1 can catch up and pull away from the bolt-on Honduh. From a stoplight his bike wants to lift the wheel and my bike does more of a little power wheelie.
I also got to roll my other buddy's Busa from an 80 punch. He wasn't expecting the R1 to be much of a match for his 171RWHP Busa, so he didn't knock it down into third like he should have. Surprise, surprise....
On a side note...dude, the fucking chicks DIG this bike! Three college chicks pulled up next to me yesterday when I was just minding my own business. If the bike doesn't get 'em, the Z06 does.
