Re: dsmlink for a 1g!
Until DSMlink has the option to ditch the MAS i see no gains in this for a 1G.

No gains over what? AFC/logger/Eprom chip combo?

Re: dsmlink for a 1g!
I have had one in the car for almost a year now. Only 2 things I dont like are the clutch operated launch control and "anti lag" features. I think the whole point of the DSMLink is to give us more tuning options without costing stand alone AEM money. I dont think it was originally designed for the super high horsepower cars that obviously dont have much need for the MAS or other factory goodies. If I could actually tune I would have gone AEM just for the other things that it can do.
Any documentation of what people have done in numbers on the Link? With LSE's help we are planning on doing a real tune on it and bringing it out for a straight run or two just for fun. All on Rally tires if they will let us.

Re: dsmlink for a 1g!
I made 451whp with a GM maf, afc, and Diver chip.
I dont see the need for the link either. Does it control timing? Thats the important thing. I havent really looked into it since I went with the AEM.

How can you not see a need if you don't know what it does?
I think they fill a nice gap between devices most people use for budget race-gas/full throttle tuning and full stand alones. It works good for a pump gas street car.

Well for the simple fact I made 451whp without it. Also was running 11.3's without it.
Just dont think for the average DSMer not looking to go sick the DSMLink is necessary when they can net the same results with a GM MAF and AFC.

How did it do driving to work everyday? How about at an autocross or road course? See where I'm going with this?

Honestly my car was driven to work DAILY in traffic etc. The car drove no different. I dont see where your going cause the car ran mint. It was only an AFC and GM MAF (used as blow through).
I know you maybe hinting at people who had issues with the MAF but I am not one of them. She made 451 reliable hp all day long and drove as well as my 2000 Eclipse I use to own.

Re: dsmlink for a 1g!
DSMLink will control rpm based timing, rpm based fuel control, N2O solenoid control based on user input settings, add fuel to go with a dry N2O system, injector compensation, datalogging, anti-lag, launch control, adjustable idle, adjustable red-line, MAF over-run, VE table mods, etc. Hopefully they will be able to tie the GM MAF in directly and/or allow for speed density operation soon. It's about as close as you can get to full stand alone in a factory ECU.

Re: dsmlink for a 1g!
I'm glad somebody gets those things to work. Pretty much every car with a GM MAF I've seen had one issue or another. Probably mostly user error, but that just goes to show you how easy they are to use.
I think DSMLink makes things MUCH easier. It's very easy to tune, reasonably priced, and the cars drivability is usually better then any other unit out there. I'd rather have DSMLink then a bunch of piggy backs (unfortunately you may have to use a MAF-T anyway at some point) or an AEM (since I don't have the patients or skill for that).

Re: dsmlink for a 1g!
My VR4 has a GM MAF setup. I bought it that way, never screwed with it, and cant even tell its there. Runs like stock...only fast.

Re: dsmlink for a 1g!
I had my GM MAF installed my Shindley along with a bunch of other stuff... If he can get it right I'm sure plenty of people can.
Like CVD said, car runs like stock. I have a DSMChip and just bought the link (too bad my dumb ass had to order the wrong version) because I want to control timing for an on-edge tune.

Re: dsmlink for a 1g!
I'd rate it one notch below a VPC because of the MAS. Definitely two steps above an AFC, they were always a pain in the ass. DSMlink is really easy to tune, almost as easy as a VPC. Oh yeah, and welcome to 2004. :-)

Re: dsmlink for a 1g!
DSMLINK > AFC Maf-t combo.
And I've helped get 516WHP out of a maf-t and S-afc combo. The driveability was okay but once we tossed in the ems and had some timing control, life was much improved (let alone more adjustment points).
I've tuned 2g's to more than 475whp with dsmlinks, 100% driveability. Let alone, getting a 2g to idle with: 6 bolt 2.4, 1mm over valves, ported head, no FIAV, 63mm N/A tb, crower 64414 cam's, stock 2g mas. It idled around 1000rpm.
I would go:
EMS, Other standalones, VPC/etc, DSMLINK, S-AFC+maf-t combo, straight up eprom ecu tuning, s-afc, Maf-t (if used seperate). Around the dsmlink mark, I would put in map ecu below it, and the new emanage ultimate equal.
Once the dsmlink guys can figure out a way to eliminate the Karmen Votex sensor, life will be gravy.

Re: dsmlink for a 1g!
I run the GM 3.5 LS1 /MAFT and it works great. Where people are messing up is they throw it on the car and don't tune it in. I got my fuel trims zero-ed out with a factory MAS, then installed the GM/MAFT and adjusted the knobs to match the flow. I also don't run the RPM wire for the MAFT which seemed to make it more tune-able. When DSMLink goes to speed density it'll come off. Or when I decide to switch to AEM EMS.
