For you Star/Quest guys

I want to play around with one of these.Like either do a 1g ECU conversion, which would obviously get rid of the distributor/TB injection crap, and add multiport sequential injection, waste spark, knock control etc.Or I've been playing around with these Megasquirts for some time now, and have added wastespark code to it.Which would use the 1G power transistor and coils, again this would obviously get rid of that TB injector/distributor crap.Let me know.

Re: For you Star/Quest guys

You could use 1G injectors, rail, regulator, pump....cheap cheap cheap

Ummm, where are you going to mount the injectors? It is going to be difficult since the head isn't set up for multi-port!

Thats actually the easy part.Mike and I have been putting the occasional thought into this for a while now, so got that part pretty well covered.Throttle body too.Even if we didn't have a plan, its pretty damn easy to weld injector bungs into the intake runners.

Re: For you Star/Quest guys

The use of the 1G parts would be great in terms of cheapness, but this has been done before lots of times (MPi, not 1G stuff).

http://www.fuelinjectionpro.com/

Those are the main guys, the people who actually setup an entire kit. For about 2k you get everything you need to go MPI. Before this company, people were (and still are) gathering parts and making it themselves. Magna manifold, standalone fuel control, etc etc. Most people seem to be drawn to the 'all-in-one kit' compared to the 'find seperate parts yourself' thing.

FuelInjectionPro also has a megasquirt system, which simply tosses in some more injectors with a fuel control I believe. If going to FULL MPI, the consensus seems to be get an MPI manifold, not toss in more injectors. But to each their own eh?

I might be interested, what is the total cost we are talking here, like a rough estimate?

I don't know, I'm not trying to sell anything here.I'm just offering my help to anybody who wants to do this conversion.

Re: For you Star/Quest guys

Yeah, I understand that, but what I am asking is what you think the cost of a stock 1g harness and ECU would be.

I don't shop for DSM parts, so I have absolutely no clue what anything costs.

It sounds like a good idea, and if it is cost effective, that is great. We all know that power can be made with the DSM ECU setup, so I am not worried about that at all, plus it would let me get some of the cool electronic toys that starquests dont really take advantage of.

What I am thinking, and this is just a total guess as to what might actually work, is your idea of a 1g ecu and whatnot, so basically make the car think it is an eclipse, and put those injectors into a Magna IM (multi port manifold for the starquest) and it would basically run like a dsm but it would be injecting the fuel into a starquest motor.

My only question is, would there be any issue with ignition timing and injector timing since they are very different motors (displacement, cam specs, DOHC vs. SOHC)? obviously that would be curable with a standalone, but that would defeat the purpose.

Again, I am a n00b to DSM's pretty much, and the major reason I am on here is I know a bunch of people here, so if any of this sounds stupid as all hell, bear with me.

Found this on a starquest board, let me know what you think...

Re: For you Star/Quest guys

Just find an eprom ECU, that would for the most part, equate to a standalone. As far as the harness, rail, inj, etc....like I said above cheap cheap cheap. The most expensive part would be the eprom ecu, which go for $100-$150.As far as I'm concerned, any swap issues would be minor and easily fixed.I think the setup would function well in general, much better than some of the other MPI swaps Im reading about.

Re: For you Star/Quest guys

So are you envisioning putting more bungs/Injectors into the exisiting intake manifold, then getting RID of everything above that? IE the TB, the TBi, and way the IC piping stupidly aims the wrong way, plus the dist?

Forgive me If i'm wrong/stupid, but by taking the dist out, you would be putting in coil packs, right? If so, another dsm part?

From how I see it, overall the car would have the entire DSM fuel set-up, DSM spark control, and DSM computer. Is that pretty much right?

Kougar, just out of curiosity, are you doing MPI in the future, and if so, what setup are you looking at?

I seriouslly doubt it. Right now the plan is to fix my quest (which has been broken for over a year) and sell it to pay off my loan that I took out for my DD. However, the loan isn't that big, and a prelude isn't that fast...not to mention I'm kinda lazy with fixing this thing, and i'm broke. So, if I end up going through another winter with it I might keep it, at which point i WOULD go MPI. I always liked the hurricane set-up by FuelInjectionPro, but this DSM hybrid stuff sounds pretty awesome.
