moms with turbos

So my gf's mom has a turbo passat and I was talking to her about it and I was like, "Hey, what's your boost gauge look like?" And she's like, "What's boost? Whats a boost gauge?" And I'm like, "Uh, the thing that shows how much your turbo is spooling." And she was still clueless. So my gf is like, "Oh yeah, your car is turbo isn't it, so you have to use premium gas too." And her mom actually said, "Hell no! I just use regular."
In conclusion turbos are not for moms. That is all.

Re: moms with turbos

Some of the newer turbo cars can run regular. You just have to double check the owners manual.

I bought my Talon from my mother. She bought it brand new in 93. She still misses it. She loved the fact that she had absolutely no problem passing other cars on the road. Plus it's a 5-speed.

Re: moms with turbos

My a4 has no boost gauge also but hits full 7psi of boost at 2K. You only need 91 octane for it also.

Re: moms with turbos

You don't need premium gas in any factory ECU turbo car, you just get less timing and sometimes less boost. The factory probably got their advertised horsepower rating from using premium, but you don't need to for driving it around town. I drive Volvo Wagon Turbos all the time and never use anything but good old 87 octane and they usually haul ass with no problems.

If you hear an EFI'd car pinging, there's more wrong than the octane level of the gas.

i think it's like my work and like prisons - they harass the new guys.

at work they call new guys fresh fish. that's a prison term for new guys who are going to get a cock in their ass after lunch. it's super gay and completely retarded.

and the caps/shift key stuff doesn't really matter. after all, it's just the internet.

Re: moms with turbos

Since originally posting this message I actually went out and took a good look at her Passat 1.8T it has no boost gauge no intercooler no blow off valve and a turbo about the size of a big apple. So I guess since it is probly giving her like 5 psi she will be fine without the premium gas.

Yeah, it is seriously so small I wasn't sure were it was at first! You could cover the whole thing up with one of those hump couplers.

Re: moms with turbos

I have the same engine as that Passat and there is an intercooler. Its bigger than a stock dsm intercooler and uses the square core crap. The diverter valve is what all the audi/vw guys call them. In my opinion it is still a blowoff valve otherwise the 2g dsm would have a diverter valve also since it is made of the same material, plastic. The car comes with a K03 and is small as crap but spools very damn quick.

Here is what some guy did to his little 1.8 and it roars.

they actually is a difference. But I forgot what it was.

I read an argument on the saabcentral about the difference of the two.

it's something minor too and I call them bov's still.
