How do you know when..

Your wastegate goes to shit? I am having similar problems as before. Once I build boost anywhere past 10#'s or so it vents off for some reason. Went up to Archer's and swapped in a brand new 1g bov and tried it.. That didn't work, Then it was already 45min past closing time so they gave me a new wastegate actuator (sp) is that the same thing? Yeah I'm dumb, Hughes can vouch for that. But anyways, The only other thing I can think of is the wires that maybe they are fouling up somehow.. It even sounds very different, Inside the car you can hear the turbo venting out air like mad! Almost sounds like it is coming from the pass. side floor.

Any input you guys could throw my way would be great.

91 TSi (fwd)
Ported 14b
Ported 2g o2 housing
Ported 2g exhaust manny
(new plugs also btw)

Let me know if more info is needed.

Thanks guys!

Re: How do you know when..

Sounds like a boost leak rather than a bad wastegate. If your wastegate is bad it'll either be stuck open, or won't open at all. Then you'll either overboost like crazy or won't boost at all. Since you said you can "hear" air and can't build more than 10psi it sounds like a boost leak.

yeah i currently have a 10 psi boost leak too. Its not at all hard to find or fix. do the boost leak test and adjust/replace whatever coupling/pipe/gasket is leaking
