timing--> valves?

Do you think the timing off this far would make a car not start and bend the valves? The compression was (4-1): 157-115-155-90. If not, any other ideas on why the car would not start? The CAS is adjusted all the way to the top (on the right adjustment). I have not checked fuel and spark yet. Coolant came out very dirty (possibly oil in it) but I do not see how the compression would drop in two cylinders that are not next to eachother. It would have had to been blown out twice. I do not see how the 3 and the 1 cylinders would have similar compression while the other two are fine. Here is the pic. Oil pump and crank marks are aligned. Thanks in advance, John.

Yes or run like shit. so the timing is off , is the belt in good shape? the auto tensioner could be bad.

The belt is in bad shape now. Along with everything else, the belt has a nice rust color to it. I have the head off it now. I plan on swapping heads, head gasket, new timing components, ARPs, no egr and AC. Hopefully the car will run afterwards. Actually, the last number was next to 50 or something really low. The compression numbers were off a cold engine.

Is there anyway to tell if the valves are bent while lookig at them? They bend at the top in the VC right? I have the head off the car. Looking at the valves, the intake valves look clean, no carbon deposits or detonation marks. The exhaust valves on the other hand are very dirty and covered in detonation. They are pretty much like sandpaper. Looking in the cylinders, it appears that cylinder 3 may have hit lightly. Cylinder 1 looks fine though. Any obvious wat to tell if they hit?

When my belt skipped about 2 teeth I was kitting pistons to valves but lightly just like you. Mike did a boroscope and it wasnt too bad so I decided to put a new belt on and it was fine. Ran fine after a new blet was installed. That was this last spring...

Pour rubbing alcohol in the exhaust/intake ports if it comes out they are bent. Rick Shindley told me that trick at last years mitsubishi cookout.

Just make sure the cams are taken out of the head. It should be obvious as to what valves are bent, if they are. The exaust valves just get more build up then the intake valves I dont think that would be detonation. So if the piston and cylender wall look fine I would lap the valves, get it decked, and some new valve seals. Good luck with the car.
